School counseling programs should be an integral part of students' daily educational environment, and school counselors should be partners in student achievement. The question has been posed, "What do school counselors do?" The more important question is, "How are students different as a result of what school counselors do?" To help answer this question, ASCA created the ASCA National Model, which is a framework for a data-informed school counseling program.

I like the ASCA book. Prefered the 2nd edition where the percentages of time were given in terms of time allocation for the various tasks. Putting indirect and direct services together for 80 % can present problems for counselors who want to work directly with students through classroom counseling, group and individual sessions. There are always numerous committes in schools and administrators looking for bodies to serve on them. It would be fairly easy for a school counselor to be very busy and actually see no students due to chairing or being a member of PBIS,SST,RTI,Intervention,Crisis,Equity,EC,and the list goes on and on and on. Please ASCA bring the % back in your 4th edition and deliniate between direct and indirect so school counselors won't be assigned to largely administrative/paperwork tasks withion the schools.

If you are a school counselor, this book should be at your side all of the time. It is practical, easy to read, and outlines not only WHAT you should be doing as a school counselor, but also explains a bit of the why and how!

This book has been really helpful. It helps me to determine what activities I am already successfully doing as a school counselor, and points out things that I need to add. A great buy as it also gives you online access to printable documents. I highly recommend!

I am well pleased by the information in this book. I just started back to school to complete the end of my program and it is coming in handy. I would highly recommend it to anyone in the school counselling profession or any emerging student. I think what surprised me most was the fact that inside the first page or so it shows you how to write your citation for this book in your APA or MLA paper...how nice! Again, worth every bit of my money and I would not resell as it will be good for future reference.
