Johan August Strindberg (January 22, 1849 – May 14, 1912) was a Swedish writer, playwright, and painter. Strindberg is known as one of the fathers of modern theater. His work falls into two major literary movements, Naturalism and Expressionism. Strindberg's earlier plays were import works of Naturalism, but in his later career, he moved away from the strict representation of Naturalism, which developed in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
