With their apple heads, big round eyes, large pointy ears, saucy expressions, and feisty dispositions, Chihuahuas are one of the most beloved breeds of toy dogs in the world. But these frisky little dogs aren’t for everyone. Consummate lap dogs, they thrive on attention and constant contact with their owners, and are miserable when left alone. As pups they’re extremely fragile, although they do outlive bigger breeds by many years. Housebreaking can be a problem with Chihuahuas, but on the other hand, they’re very smart, love performing tricks and they never forget what they learn. Some have a tendency to shyness, but a well-socialized Chihuahua can be every bit as bold as a pit bull.

Is this plucky little pooch the right dog for you and your family? Chihuahuas For Dummies provides the answer to this and all your questions about getting, caring for and living with this loveable breed. Award-winning breeder, trainer, author and long-time Chihuahua lover, Jacqueline O’Neil Beauchamp gets you up and running with what you need to know to:

Find and communicate with reputable breeders Choose the right Chihuahua for you Housebreak and socialize your new puppy Educate yourself and your dog Handle behavioral problems Participate in competitions

You get a Chihuahua and need more info? This is the book. It is loaded with important info about Chihuahuas. Things I thought were odd about my Chi, turns out this book says they are normal. Glad I got this book to understand my Chi better.

I thought this was really simple, it wasn't specific necessarily to Chihuahuas but to dogs in general...I feel like they use the same text for all dogs and just change up a few things to make it applicable. I know this sounds like I am being sensitive, but I also thought the author's view point on dogs was sometimes kind of hard to relate to. In the sections on adopting a puppy, there was some reference to not getting stuck with a sick one - instead of how to help a sick puppy, and in the section on putting your dog to sleep, the author seemed very detached and not like a real pet owner. It kind of turned me off.

I wad disapointed in this book It was Basic. Not to specific to chihuahuas. I was hoping to learn more about emperament and training and what to expect pros and Cons of owning a chihuahua.

I'm planning to get a chihuahua in the near future and collecting as much information as possible. I found this book to be very informative and interesting. It dispels a lot of myths that make people think chihuahuas are a horrid breed! I'm still working on my husband, who is in that mindset, and this book is definitely helping!

Great reference for those of us new to this breed. I recommend this book highly. It's an easy read and you can always go back and refer back to it later. If you've never had a Chihuahua, please buy the book.

I was not a big fan of the breed, until our family decided to rescue one. They have a bad rap and for good reasons. They have not been trained properly and owned by people who are not dog lovers. Our Chih is still a pup and is the center of our family. He's cute and cuddly and has a unique relationship with all of us. Without the book, we wouldn't have understood his needs. They have unique traits, but with the book you understand why.

Great gift for a new Chih owner.

The book is helpful and accurate on what to expect from the little chihuahuas.

Very practical and easy to read . It gets right to the point when I'm looking up things. Best book for me so far.
This book gave me a lot of good information about a small dog. I always had large dogs and didn't know the first thing about a Chi. I'm glad I bought it.
