Beautiful book but I was not impressed with the content or the interior designers chosen by Andrew Martin. The book showcases the work of some of the premiere designers of the world but very little information is given about the furnishings.

Anyone who is into interior design, especially on an international level, looks forward to Andrew Martin's Interior Design Review, oftentimes known as the "Bible of interior design." Competition for the International Interior Designer of the Year Award is fierce as hundreds vie for the title, a least hoping for inclusion in the Review. The chances are slim with only ninety-two inclusions in the sixteenth volume, the first being published in 1996. As the "pinnacle of the interior design industry," the coveted award can only go to one designer. Indeed, even the London Times recognizes that the occasion itself is the "Oscars for the interior design industry."

All epithets aside, the overly-modest designer who walked away with the 2011 International Interior Designer of the Year Award was Rabih Hage, graduate of the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Paris. He has now joined fifteen previous winners of the award, all memorialized on the dust jacket flap. Whether one designs for the hospitality industry in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés or the Langham Place Mongkok, Hong Kong, there is certainly one thing one must keep in mind. Perhaps this was expressed best by Juan Montoya as he exclaimed, "Give me your dreams and I'll make then happen." Indeed throughout the pages of this book, from residential, commercial, and leisure design art, we can see this happening.

Each designer, in a brief biographical sketch, expresses their design philosophy and expounds on their recent works, or works in progress. Perusal of the book shows numerous styles, sans the now somewhat passé shabby chic. Contemporary, Tuscan, Asian, Gustavian ... an amazing array can be found in this virtual tome of interior design. Nothing seems to be left behind and shifts from one style to another as one turns the pages are awe-inspiring. For example, Taylor Howes Design, an "approachable, stylish, and savvy" one, quickly gives way to an eye-popping presentation by Fantastic Design Works. They lay claim to creating "glamour and luxury with comfort." The juxtaposition of their work is simply inspiring and phenomenal.

This magnificent book is *the* interior design book people around the world have been waiting for. The enormity of the Review in itself is nothing short of an artistic wonder, one that designers will drool over. Yes, there are "rules to hotel design," but one glance at these niche market designers' work, one knows that rule is to be broken in a marvelously futuristic way. Poring over this book made me wonder, in light of the striking work, how the process for inclusion was accomplished. Anyone seeking a designer will be hard pressed to narrow down their choices. Indecisive sorts need not apply here. In the back of the book can be found contact information for designers in the book, including telephone numbers. The book itself ... de haute qualité!

Andrew Martin is the one responsible for selecting the artists who are this year's selection as being the tope interior designers in the world. In this handsome, massive, color saturated tome are perfectly composed photographs of the most amazingly talented interior designers ever placed in one book. The artists and the places they have designed are the epitome of the marriage of art and function. Here are extravagant homes (palaces really), restaurants, vacation homes, and yachts in countries all around the globe. From one set of images from a home in California to others in Turkey, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, South Africa, Portugal - the list is as extensive as the designers themselves.

Yet it is not simply fine design so amply displayed here that is a feat for the eye, but also the art in every form from paintings and sculpture to installations, to furniture and the use of light and flowers and fabrics that provide endless surprises and appreciation for just what the fine eye can produce.

Words cannot describe the contents of this magnificent volume, but it is a realm best appreciated through the curatorial eye of Andrew Martin that makes this coffee table extravaganza something that will appeal to everyone who admires quality. Grady Harp, October 12
