An great resource for those interested in growing Chinese medicinal herbs. The book covers a wide range of the most commonly used herbs and provides plenty of detail on propagating, growing, and harvesting of the herbs as well as expected yields. The reader needs to remember that the author is in California, so the information on plant spacing, best soil/light conditions, etc. sometimes needs a little modification for growers elsewhere (i.e. the east coast), but the suggestions in the book are an excellent starting point.

Purchased as a gift for a student of medicinal. My understanding, from speaking with the student, is that the book was very useful in a course and that it is a sound reference.

Very detailed guide to cultivation of Chinese medicinal herbs and their purposes. I am considering raising some of these plants on a commercial basis.
This is a great book. It is really a gardeners book for Chinese Herbs, no health book. However there are hints on how the herb is used too. All in all thorough.
I only wished some more hints for the home gardener, i.e. can I harvest American ginseng without killing the plant?
And how these herbs are made into medicine, but that's maybe asked too much.
I hope for a second volume with more herbs and how to process these herbs!
