I definitely jumped on the recycle/reuse band wagon a few years ago. Gift wrap, although I LOVE IT, has always bothered me due it's very short life span....so wasteful of our resources. This book offers some good and solid useful tips and suggestions for creating attractive gift wrap reusing things that we'd typically toss...like cereal boxes. For Christmas this year, I felt so good about using them to package clothing, etc. instead of buying gift boxes. They worked perfectly! I took the time to deconstruct and re-glue them so that the plain side was to the outside and they opened along the long side instead of the short (took me no time at all), but you don't have to do that. The point is, they are nice cardboard boxes of the correct weight, and I would never have thought of it without reading this book; and that's just one example of their good ideas. So, liked it, and I recommend it.

This is just fantastic. Crafty folk, beginners to this niche pastime, and people who love a thoughtfully designed, elegant, and comprehensive book will be infatuated with this beautiful read. This has everything from cookie recipes to instructions on creating a wine bottle gift-wrapping that doubles as a gorgeous and decorative hand towel-- that dresses up your refrigerator handle-- and everything in between. The ideas in this book are inspired, simple, and just downright COOL, thus propelling being thrifty and conservative into a wonderful new light. Family members seeking to pass down knowledge pertaining to sewing, baking, and more will find this book to be an invaluable tool, combining things like the necessary trade skills of yesteryear and the exhilaration of creating something attractive, modern, and completely awesome. It does all of this while providing a great bonding experience, bridging any potential generational gaps. Any skill-set will find this easy to utilize (you don't have to be a seamstress or professional craftsman). The projects in this book are not only affordable but you probably already have most of the supplies you need for them packed away in the back of your closet or taking up space in storage in your attic or basement. Trust me, you'll never look at a button down plaid shirt or Chinese food takeout box quite the same way anymore. Not to mention, the photography and layout are exquisite, and the quirky stories and excerpts in this book make it a real personable experience allowing a connection with its creators that feels warm and genuine. Miller and Tannery hit a real homerun with this one! I plan on it adorning my bookshelf and crafting table for years to come and can't wait to begin utilizing it with ALL of my family. Do yourselves a favor and get this for yourselves, or gift it to those loved ones this holiday season while its still at this fantastic price... almost half off the cover!

I found this book to be a wonderful resource for reusing things, learning to make with what I already have and not spending so much money on a gift bag when I can make something more beautiful and meaningful for less (or even nothing!). The illustrations are pure eye candy. The instructions are clear. I look through this book sometimes just for the treat of seeing so much beauty and to gather inspiration.

This was a gift for a friend and she absolutely loved it! She loves repurposing things, being creative and sewing. This book was a perfect fit for her & within a week she already made one of the projects a couple of times. I also sew and am a Melody Miller fan, so I think it has a purpose in your sewing room to add that special packaging or flair to the gifts you give. Highly recommend if you like to make your own or need inspiration for creative wrapping!

Excellent! This is a very timely book. It starts out with the author's frustration in throwing away lots of beautiful wrapping paper at Christmas and other holidays. She then describes many alternatives to this wasteful and bad-for-the-planet way of giving gifts with some very creative permanent wrapping skills. The reciever can reuse the wrapping, and sometimes the wrapping is more lovely than the gift itself!

It is really not very helpful to me. I was expecting something else I suppose.

This book has lots of great ideas in it! Some seem quite intensive, but there are many good ones to try.
The book is written in a style that treats grown women like "Tweens." The authors repackage old ideas to create items that no one wants......I certainly would not find a painted oatmeal box topped by a newspaper flower as a keepsake. And enough with the chardonay & margarhitas. I guess all these references to drinking are to convince the reader that the authors are really with it or to explain why the book is so lame.....the alcohol made me do it.
