Here's what this book is NOT: If you expect to buy this book and copy a bunch of the designs, you may well be disappointed. (Notice the 5 star rating above.) Many of the designs in this book may not delight you -- only a few are really wonderful, but many of them have at least one element that is interesting, unusual, clever or fun. So here is what you CAN take away from this book. If you will look at each design and carefully note how it's constructed, consider how you would interpret it -- what beads or other elements would you use instead of those pictured, how would you twist or hammer the metal similarly, or perhaps in a different way. Of course, I'm speaking mainly to beginners here, because I expect advanced designers already take this type of approach.

I found some good inspiration, but what I create as a result will not resemble any of these designs. I did find a lot of take-aways, because I could envision some parts I've had lying around for months that I wasn't sure I'd ever use. Suddenly, I envision pieces I thought were for pendants, and now I can see them as an earring element.

As a jewelry artist of over 25 years, I'm not usually into reading the instructions because I enjoy analyzing the construction and mentally breaking down the different elements, how they are joined and maybe how I would take the part I like, and change what I don't like. For beginners, I would recommend taking a similar approach and see what you can learn from the photo first. Follow the wire with your eye and note the path it takes -- you've got the instructions there if you need them, but you may learn a lot just by analyzing the photos.

I see this book as good for beginners as a learning tool and for professionals to spark some new ideas. It has lots of variety and some novel ideas I haven't seen elsewhere.

If you sell jewelry at shows and other venues; then you know that earrings are the bread and butter that pays table rent, meals, mileage and maybe motel fees. Who doesn't like inventive, creative little baubles for the ears??? Having many pairs priced inexpensively draws the customers in and leads to matching them to bracelets and necklaces. This book has some basic ideas - many of which can be "jacked up" for more expensive look.

If you're looking for images of incredible earrings, this is not the book for you. However, if you'd like to quickly master the techniques of creating wire earrings, look no further -- this is an excellent TECHNICAL guide!

The author provides instruction on how to create many styles of earrings, starting with handmade head pins, ear wires, and findings. Over time, this knowledge alone will save you $$$. And each style is presented as an easy-to-follow "recipe" of sorts.

Now...the designs: they leave much to be desired. Most of the styles are rather quirky, and some of them are downright sloppy (kinked spirals; mismatched pairs, etc.). Nonetheless, they do provide inspiration for the medium itself. At least that's what I take away from it.

So if you want to see a collection of beautiful earrings, you won't find it here. But you'll definitely find a guide to numerous adaptable techniques.

I was not so thrilled with this book. The directions are poor, as it shows only a finished picture of the earring and only written directions. For myself I can figure most of them out but some directions are not so clear. I would not get as a beginner due to the poor direction, but the projects would be good for a beginner if better directions. Pictures should always be given for the steps for just this reason, "beginners". The earrings them self's are really not that great for my liking but may be pretty good for someone else. I have donated this book.

Somewhat boring designs that are really basic and a lot of designs I would never wear. I suppose if you were selling your jewelry then you would have inspiration for other people's tastes. I would not buy again unless I looked at it first in a craft or book store. Amazon is cheaper than most stores if you are a Prime member.

Well, maybe just for a few moments anyway. I made lots of earrings since getting this book. I made some of them as if I was following a recipe and then I threw caution to the wind and began to trust my creative instincts and that's when I really started having fun! This was the first book on jewelry-making I bought. The photos and directions in the beginning of the book are very easy to follow. If I can do this, anyone can!

Lots of great ideas, easy to follow instructions!
