This 2006 revision of the original 1996 Knitting Tips & Trade Secrets has 167 pages to the original 121 pages. Is also includes more Threads magazine reader input. (Please see my review of this 1996 book: https://www.amazon.com/Knitting-Tips-Trade-Secrets-Crocheting/dp/1561581569/ref=cm_cr_srp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 Knitting Tips & Trade Secrets: Clever Solutions for Better Hand Knitting, Machine Knitting and Crocheting (Threads On) .)

It also contains the same 8 chapters.

However, this book is still plagued with the same problems that occurred in the 1996 edition.

The same 4 Main Problems with this book that I noted in my review of the 1996 book are as follows (with page numbers changed to accommodate this newer edition):
I. Look at pages 113-114. In the entire book, there is still only 1 simple hand knitting pattern, ‘The World’s Simplest Socks’, submitted by a Threads reader. There should have been more patterns given in this book.

However, there are still no patterns at all given for machine knitting (a. hand-operated, b. patterns created from inserted sheets, and c. patterns brought up by computer in electronic machines; there also needs to be information about yarn thicknesses that different KMs use).

Also, there are still no patterns for crochet. The main reason for there being at least a handful of patterns is that both of these yarn crafts have chapters devoted to them in the book. The book, then, only really develops the knitting section but not the MK or crochet sections.

II. Still missing in all 3 areas (HK, MK, and crochet) is the discussion of needles (their sizes [which create different sizes of stitches], their composition, and their care).

III. There is still very little discussion about the comparison of the different compositions of yarn – pages 175 – 180 – to only pages 117-118 in the ’96 original.

IV. After this, on page 184 (compared to page 119 in the 1996 edition) are simple Knitting Abbreviations, which should have been expanded. Also, because the book subtitle avers that it also covers machine knitting and crochet, there should have been Abbreviation sections written for these 2 yarn stitch crafts – and there weren’t.

Because this 2nd edition book is still missing so much information, especially that dealing with MK and crochet – both major sections of the book mentioned in the subtitle - , this book does not adequately deal with all 3 craft hobby skill sets. I had hoped that a future edition (this one) would be written to solve these problems, so that the book would be complete.

However, the book in this 2006 edition is still not complete.

As such, right now I can still only give this book 3 stars. This book, however, is worth examining, so I would advise going to a physical bookstore or a library to look it over, to see if you really want to buy it.

A new edtion of a book I like very much. Useful and sometimes eye-opening tips by knitters for other knitters at every level, though experienced knitters are likely to understand better the importance of many of them. Five or ten years of frustration makes a solution really welcome!

Might be helpful to newer knitters only. Fast shipping!

I've knit for years, self taught and not very adventurous. Now I don't hesitate to tackle a new and different project because I use this reference as a guide for new techniques.
Riavay
