I bought this cookbook the year it was published and literally wrote it out. I'm not kidding... Notes, spills, pages falling out, spine literally non - existent... Lol. So, one day in desperation I went on Amazon and, lo and behold, I found a replacement. It wasn't new but it's in great shape compared to mine (which I can't bare to part with so it's just sitting there held together with rubber bands). Fantastic recipes... So glad I discovered it some 25 years ago.

I had this cookbook for years. Used it constantly and finally wore out the binding so that the pages started to fall out. Ordered this one as a replacement and am thrilled. It's like having an old friend back again. This is my absolute favorite cookbook. The recipes are easy to follow and never fail. Great pictures to entice you. The seller was very prompt and the book arrived well packaged and timely. I'm a happy camper.

I received a copy of this cookbook over 17 years ago and was impressed with the selection of "old-timey" recipes contained within its pages. There are brief little history decriptions at the beginning of some of the recipes which I found interesting. The only complaint to note is that the binding broke down almost immediately and all the pages came loose and fell out. That is the ONLY reason that I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5. If you buy this book, take it to your local Office Supply store and have them re-do the binding before the pages come loose. The recipes are delicious and the pictures are beautiful.

Certainly there are recipes in this cookbook, but its real appeal lies in the gorgeous photographs of comfort food in period-perfect dinnerware, serving pieces, and glassware. It is a visual trip back to the dining room of your grandmother (or great-grandmother) or great-aunt. We don't eat this way much anymore, nor do many of us have the time to try, but nearly everyone will find a few nostalgia pieces that he/she will want to try.

There is a fabulous vegetable beef soup recipe on p. 57 that is simple and rivals any modern health-nut version. Many of these recipes call for fewer and simpler ingredients, and that fact alone could be a plus for inexperienced/infrequent cooks who don't keep all kinds of food items in the pantry.

I have owned this book for 21 years and recently bought another copy for my son who thinks this is a great cookbook for novices.

The copy we bought recently was in PERFECT condition, including the dust jacket. There are absolutely no marks of any kind on this book. The purchase gets stars for historical context and content, as well as for condition and delivery service.

I would highly recommend this book for those who have an appreciation of pre-World War II food styles or fashions. [That may sound odd, but it is a sub-branch of material culture or material history and has its own aficionados.]

My last issue was a bridal gift 37 years ago. I have used it until the pages were falling out. It is a great book, full of easy-to-follow recipes, that are delicious. It's a little hard to find these days but the pot roast recipe has been my husband's favorite since I cooked it after our honeymoon.

Ordered this as a spare copy because I liked it so much. Many great recipes and illustrations.

This is a great cookbook to have on hand when learning how to cook old fashioned foods. I've only made 1 recipe from the book which was homemade vanilla ice cream and it was delicious. I have quite a bit of vintage cookbooks, and this one is a keeper.
As my daughter says, anything you might want to make is in this book. It is a great reference cookbook to find recipes for things you already know about, but dont know how to make. It is heavily referred to in our family.
