Because my beloved and increasingly fragile 1986 paperback edition of this classic is literally falling apart, I decided to purchase the 2003 3rd edition. After a quick review of the text I was bitterly disappointed to discover that many of my favorite recipes from the original have been thoughtlessly and pointlessly excised - Congri, Cajun Rabbit with Roux Gravy, and Sicilian Ricotta Torte among them. There are some new recipes in their place, and I can't speak for them, but Broiled Redfish with Mango Salsa doesn't sound very Cajun/Creole to me.

Still, I can understand including new recipes, but I can't for the life of me understand the need to delete some of the classics from the original.

(The first time I cooked that Cajun rabbit dish was many years ago for the annual family Thanksgiving potluck, and my relatives treated the mere mention of rabbit with some serious scepticism, if not outright disdain when I informed them what I had brought. By the end of the evening that big castiron pot had been licked clean and I didn't hear anything about eating the Easter Bunny again.)

Anyone out there thinking of retiring their 1986 edition is going to have to just hold on to it for a while longer. This 2003 edition is an imposter.

Authentic cayun recipes, the best. !! The cayun toast is sooooo addicting I cant stop eating it. Same with the rest of the recipes. I would marry the author if I wasn’t already, and I would weigh 600lbs in no time.

I have an earlier edition of this cookbook that is torn, tattered, and full of food stains (I know that sounds yucky). I decided to look at Amazon to find another copy of the earlier edition, when I found this edition. Basically this edition has the same recipes, but I was a bit disappointed that it doesn't have the beautiful pictures to go with Ms. Thompson-Anderson's amazing recipes. So I will keep the old one, put it in plastic sleeves, and use it to cook with, so I can pass the new one along to one of my daugher's on their wedding day....I know the price is steep, but this cookbook is worth every penny! If you like Cajun-Creole cooking this cookbook is a MUST HAVE for your cookbook collection.

I owned a copy previously which I had worn out. Anyone who enjoys Louisiana cooking should have this book. Flavorful, easy recipes.
There are either two cookbooks with this same name by this author, or I received an abbreviated version. The book I thought I was ordering was advertised as almost 300 pages and described as the most comprehensive Cajun creole cookbook on the market. The book I received has 172 pages of recipes, none of which are particularly compelling. This
particular book was described as being in " good as new" condition. It is actually well-used, to the point that pages are food stained. Perhaps I read the seller's description wrong, but, in any case, this is not the book I wanted.
