I didn't listen to it, but my parents did. They make loads of wine, and I figured they would enjoy it. They said it was very easy to listen to, that it wasn't too long or dry. fun and informative.

Like listening to NPR and learning.
Scream_I LOVE YOU
I bought this to learn more about wines while in the car. It is good, but not overwhelming. Some sections are overflowing with content that is hard to absorb while driving and some sections are slow. Since it is the only CD I could find, I rate it as much better than nothing. I know more now than when I started.

Was slightly surprised when an audio tape arrived. But it was worth it. The contents are good. Solid information. Just that I like to listen to my aduio tapes while driving, and then I seldom have anything to write on. My bad. Info is god, though.
Madi
Easy to digest, fun narrator.

This book provides the perfect amount of information that anyone would need to start appreciating wine. The book is well organized and allows the gradual building of a wine oriented vocabulary. Although the amount of time given to tasting wine is limited, there is a wonderful explanation of various popular grape varieties. This section may go quickly for some, but it is a good way to get acquainted with some basic facts about grapes. I believe that the section devoted to wine regions greatly added to the quality of this book. It provides a country by country comparison of wine and the quality of various grapes. The author seems to enjoy the subject but does not take wine too seriously. This seems like an excellent first book on wine.

I bought this through my iTunes account, and am happy to say that it's one of my favorite wine books. Not because it's a very serious book on wine - I have several of Jancis Robertson's books for that - but because it's so enjoyable to listen to while you're learning at the same time.

Julian Curry is both the author and the narrator, which is a rare treat. You understand every nuance because the person is able to relate exactly what he meant when he wrote it. In addition, there are sound effects - the popping of the cork at the beginning of the book, the snippets of music before each region (although I'll never forgive him for "Waltzing Matilda" which stayed in my head ALL DAY) and more. My only complaint is that I wish he'd do a new edition with updated information - particularly Australia, New Zealand, and some of the changes in California AVAs.

Whether you're a serious student of wine who needs to brush up or a newbie, I think you'll enjoy this book. If you're not familiar with the terms, the Kindle version is certainly cheap enough!

Highly recommended as a fun book to listen to.
This is an entertaining, informative overview of basic wine knowledge. It is an excellent beginning point for a budding oenophile or anybody who just wants to learn about wines. Lively music evokes imagery of each country whose wines are featured. Additionally, there is a helpful booklet with maps of the most important and newly-emerging wine regions. Accept Julian Curry's accent and manner of speaking and you will be well enriched and ready to confidently walk into any wine shop or order from any wine list by the end of the fourth CD.
