It appears we have another weird web site link issue with amazon. The first review was for volume two. Then I found volume 10 shared the same link. This is volume 14 so I have adjusted the reviews with labels for each.

Volume two:
Why is it some guys who are lucky to have good things and want to mess it up? Junpei through an unusual method manages to interest Tsukasa; considered the prettiest girl in school; to go out with him. Okusa tells him Aya is interested in him and of course he has to start thinking about her.

Tsukasa invites him over to study and of course it just goes wrong. Tsukasa is quite comfortable with him and of course he takes the meaning to be much more in several instances. One which will increase his reputation for being a pervert if word get's out.

The next day he runs into Aya on his way to study and they run into Tsukasa and Okusa. Tsukasa starts teasing Junpei about what happened and of course that perks the interest of Okusa which in turn makes Junpei panic at the thought of what happened getting known. Tsukasa tries to invite him over again but Junpei says he has something to do(meeting up with Aya and her novel). Aya feels bad and Junpei tries to explain things as Tusuka appears. Junpei barks at her thinking she was going to ask him over again and she get's mad and shoves a bag at him and storms off. He opens it and the legend of the pervert increases. Aya runs off and the next day Junpei finds a note she is quitting the study group. Aya makes a major effort over the days to avoid him.

Life moves on and they basically don't even acknowledge each other.

It's testing day and the mystery girl appears. Junpei is looking around for Aya. A wind blast and Junpei is sure the mystery girl is the strawberry panties girl. He heads off to his testing room, Tsukasa has another room. Aya's name is called during roll call and the mystery girl sits down. Junpei freaks, looses focus and keeps pondering the possibilities. The test is over and Aya talks to him for the first time. She then runs away crying. Tsukasa notices this.

The next day Tsukasa and Junpei are together and it's uncomfortable. She asks him a "joking" question and walks away. Junpei does nothing.

Eventually, it's the day the test scores are posted and Junpei learns his fate for his mistake.

Tsukasa makes are startling announcement; she is not going to Izumizaka. She has a prepared story about the parents and having goals that should be accomplished, etc., etc. Junpei is speechless. She smacks him for ending up on the wait list and runs off.

Okusa being astute yells at Junpei and makes him run after her. He catches her (I do like the sad over the shoulder look she had. So much said by a simple drawing) and she explains why she decided to go to Omi. I was more of a fan for the Junpei and Aya couple but Tsukasa is a great girl as well. Poor Junpei.

A new girl appears. Oh oh.

Volume 10:

What will Junpei do?

We continue in the nurses office and Junpei is already panicking. Tsukasa pulls him on the bed and they lay together and talk while scenes change to Satsuki and Aya talking about their plans. We switch back to Tsukasa and Junpei as things might start but it's interrupted and they have to leave. Can't say poor Junpei. He failed to act. He walks her home and gives her a birthday present.

It's the next day and the movie board is up. Chelsea Angels! The film club does their booth setup for the festival. The entrance has a board of Tsukasa and of course Satsuki is slightly annoyed by the boys talking about Tsukasa. She drags Aya away to suit up and both are kidnapped. A new girl appears and Junpei rushes off to see what happened to his "booth babes" He runs into the new girl and quickly learns her name in Chinami and she is being pursued by an ex-boyfriend. Chinami is a "gold digger" and Junpei learns the ex spent money on her and would like it back. He offers to pay. Chinami sensing money takes a liking but quickly learns he won't fall for her "charm."

We quickly learn what happened to Satsuki and Aya and Junpei through desperation uses Chinami to attract and audience. Not surprised she has a certain charm which draws the boys in. The film does well and Junpei is happy. Afterwards Hiroshi pulls a prank on Junpei. He does something to Chinami and says Junpei did it. The other girls react in their usual way and we wonder if yet another girl has appears to complicate Junpeis life. Five girls plus two extras. Oh poor Junpei.

The club ends up winning third place. Junpei runs off with the prize money to pay part of Chinmai's debt. The ex turns down the offer. Things are starting to look good but Chinmai appears with a squad of boys in two. Chinami teases them and the ex goes crazy. Unfortunately for Junpei; damages to the school takes all the prize money and they still have a debt. Chinami has to get a part time job to repay the debt! After a few misadventures she ends up getting hired at the theater where Junpei works. Chinami causes a mess and Tsukasa catches Junpei and Chinami in an awkward situation. Chinami of course has to stoke the proverbial fire. Poor Junpei.

The field trip is coming up. All the girls are making plans. Aya is in panic and heads to the roof. Junpei does the same and it's a repeat from the first volume. This time Junpei learns Aya knew it was him (don't forget Aya is blind as a bat and didn't have her glasses that day). They have a moment which is interrupted by the "evil" Chinami.

It's trip time and the Rikiya and Hiroshi smuggle Chinami along (She is a sophomore). They stay at an inn. Satsuki decides to take a late night bath. The girls room is locked so she uses the boys. Chinami(she stays with the boys) decides to use the bathroom and tries to sneak out. She steps on Junpei, a yelp, and they run from the ruckus of annoyed boys. Junpei runs from Chinami and decides to hide in the mens bath and is startled to find a bra. He investigates and finds a naked Satsuki. She pounces and Junpei gets soaked. The doors are locked and they are stuck for the night. She tries to entice him. He keeps his back to her while she simply asks for him to look at her. He refuses and says he is afraid to loose control. She wants him to! He tries to move away and annoyed; she pursues. She slips and hits her head. He tries to assist her and they are interrupted by Chinami who screams as she thinks Junpei attacked Satsuki. She runs but Junpei catches her and blackmails her to get help promising he will not tell the adults she is a sophomore. She agrees.

It's morning. Satsuki has a big bump and is annoyed to find Chinami. The class heads off to Kyoto and Junpei is annoyed. He wanted to talk to Aya but she is in a different group.

They eventually run into each other at a shrine. There is an incident and afterwards they are going to kiss when of course who appears? Tsukasa! She runs and Junpei runs after her. Poor Aya.

They later meet that night and talk. Tsukasa has an evil plan!

I did kind of like this volume. It had the usual humor. I have to admit I knew who Junpei was going to pick after this volume. The author tried to hide it but I knew.

Volume 14:

When Higure attacks!

Mr. Higure tells the punks to let go of his fiance and then trounces them just as Junpei appears. He thinks Higure is the one bothering Tsukasa and throws a punch. Mr. Higure catches the punch and asks why? What more can a girl want. Tall, good looking, tough, and a talented pastry chef! Poor Junpei!

Yui being Yui announces out loud that he his Tsukasa's fiance! Everybody is startled but Higure explains it's not true and he said it simply because nothing puts punks on the spot then dealing with an enraged fiance. Junpei is relieved and Tsukasa tries to explain it away but is stopped cold when Higure thinks it is an amusing notion. Yui develops a crush and tells Tsukasa she should go for Higure because he is so dreamy. Tsukasa explains why it will not be. Junpei finally get's to see Tsukasa work. It's hard and fast but she really enjoys it! Junpei really get's muddled but that is broken when Tsukasa brings over two pieces of Strawberry short cake. Yui is thrilled and complains Junpei has a bigger strawberry! Tsukasa explains with a smirk its because Junpei likes strawberry's! Junpei picks up on the meaning and stammers. Yui attempts a theft and it falls on the floor. Argument ensures. Higure notices and ponders the possibility.

It's the next day and Junpei sees Aya talking to Mai and remembers not returning a call. Mai of course being evil forces Aya in asking him a question. She asks to go out on Sunday! Junpei freaks but she is asking for Kozue! Aya is withdrawn and Junpei is confused. He tries to talk to Kozue who of course has a panic attack but Junpei talks her through it by not calling it date.

They meet on Sunday and Junpei is surprised to find she is actually an attractive girl. Hiroshi was out searching for new photo girls and spy's her right away and tries getting photo angles. She freaks but Hiroshi is taken out by a rock and we learn who really setup the date! While in the theater; Kozue's imagination gets the better of her. The movie is over and they try to leave but Hiroshi returns and this time he has Rikiya with him. Junpei and Kozue try to run. They only get away when Kozue's "date chaperons" intervene. Junpei decides to show her his movie so they head off to school. Kozue is really moved by the movie. She gushes over the fact Junpei and his friends made it. Junpei presses her for what she thought as a whole. She liked it but thought the hero was a little too stiff. They try to act out the scene and it ends up with then crashing on the ground with him on top of her. They pause for a moment then he freaks. She surprisingly doesn't have a panic attack. Junpei being the dope he is; misreads her. He walks her home and this time she does panic a little and runs off. Junpei again; misreads her. He wants to be a director? Kozue calls Aya in a panic and asks her what to do as she has fallen in Love with Junpei. Aya is stunned.

It's the next day and Aya is tired. She tries to tell herself it's from studying late. It was but it was also Kozue's declaration of love. Junpei appears like nothing has happened. Hiroshi appears and scolds them for no movie on the final project. It's time for the film club to meet! The girls are present, Hiroshi and Rikiya but Junpei is missing. Satsuki goes to leave but Hiroshi stops her with this is about picking the next heroine. Evil Hiroshi has a DVD and costumes. The girls are on the war path...well...maybe not Aya....over what was said and Junpei has to run! He gets cornered and assaulted but Aya comes to the rescue and exposes the plot. Aya and Junpei walk home and Aya announces she finished a screen play. Junpei reads it and it's wonderful. The problem is the heroine. Satsuki, Tsukasa, Chinami, and Misuzu are out. Not the right type of personalities.

It's cram school again and Kozue is well being Kozue. After school they head to get something to eat. Mai makes Kozue sit close to Junpei. He is surprised. Aya is a little jealous and jumps on the other side. Kozue reads the new script and loves he and starts chatting with Aya. Lucky Junpei! Kozue decides she wants to help on the new film. Junpei is surprised and asks what about her studying? She announces its ok because she really likes him! People are surprised and she freaks! Aya panics and wonders what Junpei will say. Junpei heard it but what he really saw was his next heroine. They ride home on the tram and they have a moment. They get off the tram and Kozue tries to explain away the comment and fails in spectacular fashion. Junpei being the dunderhead he is; starts to realize she may like him romantically.

The club meets and they are arguing over Junpei's choice. Misuzu finally suggests Aya should be the heroine. Everybody agrees. Aya doesn't like it so she suggests Tsukasa. They walk over to her shop and find she is not available. Special training from Mr. Hirgure. Junpei and Aya are not happy.

Later that night; Junpei is trying to sleep but it's too hot and somebody calls. He finally answers. It's Tsukasa. She announces she was fooling herself?! She wants to be with Junpei and asks if he can go away with her for the weekend. He agrees! They head off to a beach she always liked. But it's not what she remembered. She sports a nice bikini and Junpei being Junpei misses many opportunities. Eventually she hurts her foot and he has to carry her back. They realize they need a place to stay and pick an inn. He freaks when they are setup in a room together. It's solved when she falls asleep.

The next day she announces they are going to a place she used to live. They arrive at the place and he is surprised she grew up in the country. There is a festival and she makes them dress up in traditional cloths and they head over to it. They talk more about Tsukasa's issue with work. She is at a crossroads on what to do. She says something that confuses him. She makes him take part in an area tradition of writing a wish on a bamboo leaf and turning it into a boat and sending it away in a stream. He wonders what she wrote? It starts to rain so they head back.

They have an awkward rest of the night. They go to bed in seperate rooms. He talks himself into just being friends. She appears and says she can't sleep because of the rain. She wants to talk. He starts to panic. She says this might be the last time to ask him for anything and looks at him in a certain way. He freaks. She looks a little sad then hits him with a pillow and jumps into his bed and says I want to talk all night. He freaks and tries to leave. She asks why is it so hard to be friends with her? He stays. They have an awkward period and eventually she starts talking again. She tries to snuggle and he panics. He then speaks and then we get yet another clue as to who the girl will be.

The next day they head home. She sleeps on the train while he is awake and exhausted. They get home and Tsukasa looks like her old self.

And that my friends is it. The series ended here for some reason. I looked around and it seems to be a company died or there were disagreements and the contract was cancelled. There would have been 5 more books. People hope it will be finished. But, it will not as this edition was 7 years ago. Some people have published the magazine editions online. I am not sure of the translations as they are not all the same but do have a look if you want to get the rest of the stories. They are good. The last movie is Aya's moment. The end of high school is bitter sweet. We learn the fate of Satsuki and Tsukasa. There is a reunion and if you haven't already guess, the girlfriend is selected. It's tough because each girl has her own qualities and each one would be a great catch.

Overall, it was a good series. I was left with wanting more.

There is a new series but I am not sure it will make this type of publication. I found it online and it's ok. Not as good as the original but it will give you more if you liked these characters!

You would think that Junpei would be quite satisfied with his life these days because his girlfriend, Tsukasa, is the prettiest girl at school and also the owner of the mythical strawberry panties he glimpsed back in Volume 1....or is she? Even though he really likes Tsukasa and has slightly pervy urges towards her, Junpei is taken aback when she invites him to her house to cook dinner for him and study. Things get even more interesting when he finds out her parents are not going to be home anytime soon! But even in this situation, the poor boy finds himself thinking about Aya Tojo. One of his friends, the studly Okusa, told him that Aya had a thing for Junpei, but he thinks its just because he wants him to break up with Tsukasa so he can hook up with her. While Junpei doesn't know the truth, he does find himself falling for Aya. While all this is going on, he still has to find time to study for high school entrance exams so he can realize his dream of becoming a film director.

While the second volume of Strawberry 100% was enjoyable on its own terms, it's starting to slant dangerously close to becoming a harem comedy, especially with the entrance of a new female character in the closing pages of this book. I just don't see how the storyline can sustain itself UNLESS it keeps on adding characters to distract from what is otherwise a very simplistic setup. I really enjoyed the first volume because, for once in this type of book, the main character had no problem getting the pretty girl. Now Junpei realizes that the girl of his dreams is the wrong girl of his dreams. This is what happens when you fall in love based on seeing someone's panties. You have to see the soul and the face to truly judge a person's worth. An aspect of this manga that seems a bit goofy is the fact that Aya can't be recognized by Junpei when she isn't wearing her glasses, a la Clark Kent/Superman. So when he catches a glimpse of Aya without her glasses, he recognizes her as the girl with the strawberry panties, but does not recognize that she and Aya are the same person. It was a bit of a surprise that glasses wearing cute girls are repeatedly categorized as unattractive and plain in Strawberry 100%. I though bespectacled cuties were a common weakness of otaku the whole world over? I still like the characters and the art is quite good so I hope my fears about it becoming some type of Love Hina castoff are wrong.
