Paul Twitchell (born Jacob Paul Twitchell) (died September 17, 1971) was an American spiritual lecturer and writer, pulp fiction author, and founder of the religion known as Eckankar. He was accepted by the Eckankar members as the Mahanta, the Living ECK Master from October 22, 1965 until his death. However, in December 1963 Twitchell reportedly asked Singh to allow him to dedicate a book, The Tiger's Fang, in Singh's name. Twitchell wanted Singh's help to get it published and sent the manuscript for Singh's approval. Twitchell never received a positive response from Singh and following their disagreement in 1966 he asked for its return. The Tiger's Fang is the greatest book I ever read! I am a seeker and have read many, many books on spiritual subjects. Many years ago I discoverd a book by Brad Steiger who mentioned in the book a remarkable man called Paul Twitchell. This intrigued me and so I bought several books by Paul Twitchell. One was Eckankar: the key to Secret Worlds which I really enjoyed! But the one book I liked the most was called THE TIGER'S FANG by Paul Twitchell. Today, Harold Klemp is the Spiritual leader who is teaching this method, but one doesn't have to follow him to try the methods explained in his books. Also, look for "Autobiography of a Modern Prophet" by Harold Klemp.

Whether The Tiger's Fang is a record of an actual spiritual journey or the vivid impression of a vision that has been granted to few mortal men, must remain a matter for the individual reader to judge

The present-day Living ECK Master is Sri Harold Klemp. (Eckankar. The book is about Paul Twtichell's experience of being brought into other dimensions within the inner worlds, by his spiritual teacher, that opened more and more his spiritual heart into the glories of that which has always existed, and is there for all souls to experience. The wisdom that was imparted to him on each leg of his journey was profound, and rings true to me, to this day.

Alternative theologies are one of my hobbies. So I write this review neither as an Eckist nor as someone who has any ill will toward Eckankar or the related organizations. Thought that might make my review a bit unique.

I'll admit—I had trouble getting into this one. The cosmology is an interesting mix of Hinduism, Theosophy, and just a dash of Scientology that in itself is somewhat attention grabbing. But the structure of the narrative is overly basic. Our narrator ascends through heavenly planes à la Dante in Paradiso with a Tibetan guide named Rebazar Tarzs standing in for Beatrice. At each level he meets the godhead of that level, offers a brief description of the sound associated with the level (bees, waves, flute music, etc.) and also notes that the level is incredibly brighter than the preceding level. Once that description is out of the way, the godhead of the level begins a monologue for the benefit of the narrator (and presumably reader) detailing some theological point. Rinse and repeat through the short narrative until the end. Often these monologues are so full of cliches and solipsistic breakdowns that they prove less than salient on close study and are honestly not all that attention holding. It's an interesting read for its impact on Minnesotan esoteric society, and very brief so not much of a commitment. But I feel it's a bit under-baked and could have done with quite a bit more description of each realm and more Socratic dialogue with each godhead rather than garrulous monologues.

I read this book in 1972 orginally. It has probably had the greatest impact on my life than any book I have ever read. I can still "see" the original imagery I experienced while reading this book. It has been an incredible foundation for me for the last 42 years. The wisdom imparted by reading this book was monumental. I believe Paul Twitchell even mentioned in this book, that this can be a "Yardstick to measure your (spiritual) experiences." And truly this has been one of the greatest balancing points I have ever experienced. One of my favorite statements from this book, is "There is No Truth Greater than a Lie... " which haunted me for years, and finally a friend of mine reminded me of the rest of the quote: "There is no truth Greater than a LIE THAT YOU BELIEVE TO BE TRUE." The wisdom in this book as Paul describes his ascent from one level of vibration through (what I call a vortex) to another world of greater beauty, and on and on and on, was the most profound, and the book is a yarstick to measure other books on spiritual awareness. If you can read this book, and put aside everything you have ever believed (ie. been brainwashed, possibly) and read the book with an OPEN HEART (and mind, as well, I suppose), as Paul Twitchell even suggested, this book can transform your life, resulting in Greater and Greater freedom and joy. It is probably the Best book I have ever every read, and the way I measure the spiritual value of books is in the shadow of "The Tiger's Fang." The title is sort of strange. I am truly blessed to have come across, and to have read this book. Again, it gave me the greatest foundation for living the spiritual life on this planet. By the way, the reason for the title: If you are claiming to be a killer of Tigers, then please bring back the Tiger's fang to prove you have actually done what you said you have done. Too many people (well intentioned I am sure) claim many spiritual benefits, but do not have the serentity, and all of the other qualities emanating from their beingness to demonstrate that they truly have attained to great spiritual heights. Sort of the opposite of ringling like a cracked bell. Those who do attain to great spiritual heights, and can have experiences as described in the Tiger's Fang, will be an upliftment to others. Then of course if you are resisting the Real You guidance inside of you, you might not like those who are living in the heart of God. You might violently react to truth that IS spoken in Love. As Paul Twitchell referred to as a quote from his spiritual teacher, "Truth that is not spoken in inner peace is NOT (my emphasis) Truth. " I could translate this to also say, "Truth that is not spoken with Love in your heart is simply NOT Truth." This book is a godsend to the whole world. Even though it was written in the 60's, It can transform your life. This book "should (tongue in cheek)" be in every hotel room ! LOL ...

I read this book to really get into a creative mode. The author takes you on an incredible journey into the heart of Love. Some may call it fantasy or an overactive imagination, but I call it inspiring.
