Delightfully Humorous Reading With an Important Message for Twentieth-Century Christian Women.

"I was lying in bed reading my Bible and eating a large bowl of popcorn, trying not to get grease stains on the pages when I found a description of the 'woman of all women.' My husband's snores and relaxed face assured me that I was not bothering him with the light, so I read on - "

Thus begins the author's quest toward patterning her life after the woman "far above rubies" the administrator, seamstress, and chef par excellence, the one whose children blessed her and whose husband praised her.

Becoming "a virtuous woman" from the inside out!

it was okay. i read it for the book club and found that it was a 30 year old book. so when the character is putting herself down, it was a let down for me. other members of the club thought it was great and some gave it 5 stars. others gave it 3.5 stars for the same reason. it had too much of the "dumb blonde" in it. We are all bible reading career women.

Have only read one chapter, chuckling all the way through and looking forward to more.

This book is hilarious! I have found myself within the pages, and I've recommended this book to several of my friends who struggle with "Martha Syndrome" just like I have. Marsha Drake found ways to share biblical principles of being a wife and mother not only through personal experience, but also through honest, loving conversation.

Enjoyable, funny ,yet insightful.

I laughed, I cried and totally related to her. If given the chance it's a must read for any wife who feels she could never be the Proverbs 31 Lady. "Martha," (the main character) shows us we are able to achieve such a dream in Christ our Lord.

From the title, we can expect the author to cover the impossibilities of trying to be the Proverbs 31 woman - a woman who seems too perfect for the rest of us! Marsha Drake humorously takes the reader through the adventures of a housewife trying to emulate the woman described in verses 10-31.
It is not clear whether the funny antics are autobiographical or Drake's imagination, regardless, all women can relate to the narrator. While the narrator works diligently on her transformation, she receives several revelations from God the more she spends quality time with Him. It becomes slowly apparent to her, instead of trying to be someone else, she simply needs to depend on God to reveal His will for her.
The Proverbs 31 Lady and Other Impossible Dreams is a light, humorous book that helps altar the misguided views of the Proverbs 31 woman.

Since I have been thinking a lot about the idea of the Proverbs 31 woman, I thought I would recommend this book. Last year I read this great book about a woman who tried her hardest to become the woman described in Proverbs 31. Along the way she does some crazy, silly, and amazing things. I think her adventures show how it feels to be a woman today trying to follow Proverbs 31's example. I am sure you will laugh and sympathize, I did. I recommended this book on my blog: [...]
Here is a book on Proverbs 31 with a completely fresh approach, the first one I've read to have the courage to point out the seemingly bridgeless gap between the woman described in Proverbs 31 and the "average woman". At the same time that we laugh at the ridiculous antics described in the book, we become aware of identifying with them. "Yes, I've felt like that! I'm not the only one!" And so we read on, hopeful that the author will not disappoint us, that she will find an answer to her quest that will also reflect on the needs felt by the reader. And, gentle reader, she does indeed find "the Way" to live as a Proverbs 31 woman. I found this book difficult to put down as Marsha Drake led me through laughter and tears to that "Way".
