First, the cross is countercultural. An effective witness is aware of how his or her biases get in the way of the gospel. As Garcia rightly notes, such idolatry obscures the true "vulnerability of the cross

The theology of the Cross (Latin: Theologia Crucis, German: Kreuzestheologie) or staurology (from Greek stauros: cross, and -logy: "the study of") is a term coined by the theologian Martin Luther to refer to theology that posits the cross as the only source of knowledge concerning who God is and how God saves. It is contrasted with the Theology of Glory (theologia gloriae), which places greater emphasis on human abilities and human reason.

PDF Urban theology affirms the importance of context - notably the place of the city - in theological reflection. However, it has often been confined to particular contexts or theological camps and thus failed to engage with the fluidity of contemporary urban societies. Against this backdrop we have witnessed the re-invention of the divisive politics of Empire on the streets of the postcolonial British city and at the despatch box in the House of Commons, which carries echoes of Samuel Huntington’s orientalist ‘clash of civilisations’ thesis.

This book is collection of essays on using the theology of the cross as opposed to the theology of glory in our times of mulicultural witness.
Broken into the three categories of Signposts, Global Themes and North American Themes, this collection engages the reader to consider the biblical approach of emphasis and center on the cross. Although many may be offended by this and cry out, we do already, not so fast. Read and learn what this means biblically before so doing.
There is much to be gained from this well thought out work, especially how the theology of the cross might play itself out in such diverse witness situations such as Russia, Latinos in America, etc. Bioethics and postmoderism are explored as well.
Witness we must, and this work admonishes the body of Christ to do it with the core and heart of God's revelation, the theology of the cross. Lutherans who already realize this will be encouraged, and those outside such a theology will gain insight into the mind of God for outreach.

Thought provoking in a helpful way. Addresses real human issues, yet keeps the main thing the main thing. Very important anthology. Must read if your heart is open for growth.
