A Greater Glory book.

A Greater Glory book. Having proved she's a legal success, Kit Shannon again battles injustices found in Los Angeles, the city she has come to love. She now takes up the cause of a society woman who fears her dark past will be exposed.

Peterson pairs with legal thriller writer James Scott Bell for City of Angels, first in the Shannon Saga series about Kathleen Shannon, an orphan with connections. She journeys to Los Angeles in 1903 to live with her rich aunt and, she hopes, study law. Male lawyers put up obstacles, but her investigative skills win their grudging admiration.

Kit Shannon sat up with a start. Would her great aunt Freddy, whom she was to meet for the first time, be completely mortified at her appearance? "Almost there, huh?"

Kit Shannon sat up with a start. Almost there! She reached up to force an errant strand of hair up under her straw hat and looked past her pale expression reflected in the train window to the scenery outside. Would her great aunt Freddy, whom she was to meet for the first time, be completely mortified at her appearance? "Almost there, huh?"

Six months after passing the bar, Kit Shannon has her own office-and not a single paying client. Sure, I like strong characterization and a great plot (which this book definitely has) but above all, a passion for place is what I'm looking for in what I read

Six months after passing the bar, Kit Shannon has her own office-and not a single paying client. The one lucrative offer to come across her desk is morally repugnant. Meanwhile, people like Chinese immigrant Wong Shi, who can't afford legal fees, need her help more than ever. Sure, I like strong characterization and a great plot (which this book definitely has) but above all, a passion for place is what I'm looking for in what I read. And I'm reading this series at an appropriate time in my life.

Kit Shannon, lawyer, fighter of the truth and justice, battles in the Los Angels courthouse.

From the first sentence to the last, this book drew me into a story of intrigue, suspense, and thrill. Kit Shannon ranks near the top of my favorite characters. She's witty, determined, and onry. Add Harry Houdini and the story takes on a magical sense. There were twists and turns I hadn't seen coming. I laughed, felt tension and held my breath at times during the read. If a greater rating than five were available, I'd give it. I can see why this book won the Christy Award, it's a masterpiece. I look forward to the next one in this series.
