Dee Harris is busy with the reconstruction of her life in so many areas. Her 30-year marriage to her husband, Lyle, seems to be over after she caught him having an affair.

Her two 30-plus year old children are still living at home with their father. She lost 150 pounds and has undergone several reconstructive surgeries.

Her career as a consultant has really taken off. All of this, plus she has become a Christian.

Dee's life is very fast-paced. Her job at LeGrande Enterprises includes helping raise money for causes through events and helping committees plan out projects.

Eating has always been a comfort to Dee, but after her weight loss surgery, she has to be extra careful to eat in a whole new way. At one event, Dee eats an egg roll that wasn't chewed enough which sent Dee to the ladies room.

This is where she meets Lily. Lily is a very wealthy lady who lives in Las Vegas. She needs help in planning and implementing a huge building project. Is this a divine appointment?

Dee's boss and friend, Areta, does not understand Dee's Christianity. Stress mounts as reports are given to Areta about Dee aggressively evangelizing clients and coworkers. Where are these anonymous reports coming from?

Dee wants to divorce her husband for she cannot forgive him for the affair. Lyle is not cooperating by not signing the divorce papers. Her children, Kelsey and Kent, have enjoyed their lives living at home. Their lives begin to change along with their attitudes toward their mother.

Lily's nephew, Carter, is a handsome cowboy who is on the committee for the project. He becomes an interest to Dee on a personal basis.

Carter's twin, Colt, died and has left his land for the project to build an art museum that will glorify God in the arts. Problems arise as the committee members have different views on how this should be done. Will the project get started by the January 1 deadline, or will the land be forfeited?

Allison Bottke does a wonderful job with her first novel. Her sense of humor and detail gives life to the story and makes it fun and believable.

Dee is now living the fabulous life. Once overweight and unhappy, thanks to gastric bypass surgery, plastic surgery and a great job she's starting to enjoy life a little more. She still won't forgive her ex-husband who cheated on her even though he keeps bugging her about it. She's enjoying her new image and wants to enjoy her life to her fullest. Unfortunately her two 30+ year children don't seem to share this idea with her and constantly bicker with Dee blaming her for their parents' breakup. Plus Dee's new clients are not the easiest bunch to work with. Then just as there is a new guy in the horizon, Dee is forced to work with her ex on the project! This definitely puts her new faith in Christianity to the test.

This was a really fun book to read. I enjoyed reading about Dee's business with all the movie stars. Loved the costume ball sequence with Patrick Swayze. I also enjoyed that the person who had kept doing wrong to Dee finally got found out and punished, without Dee extracting her own revenge. I also liked since Dee is new Christian, she is eager to share about her faith but she knows not to blast it out to people when they feel uncomfortable. She's still mostly the same person though, feeling insecure about herself and hoping that plastic surgery will ease all her troubles away. I enjoyed the fashion, shoes, clothes talk in the book. It made it more fun for me to hear about designer names even though I will never be able to afford them! Dee's a very likable character and the reader constantly wants to cheer her on. I felt that it was also very realistic to show that society was treating Dee better just because she was skinnier. Yes Christians are suppose to love everyone, but it's also truth that looks ARE being judged in society. The only thing I didn't like was that I felt the ending was a little too tidied up. I honestly didn't see why she had to go back to Lyle. Yes she should forgive him, but that doesn't mean she can't be angry with him. He lost her trust, she didn't have to take him back. I know he became a Christian but I would have liked to see him at least become more spiritually mature before Dee took him back. Other than this, this book is highly recommended. It's targeted for the baby-boomer set but I believe anyone who likes a fun chick lit book will enjoy this one at any age.

This is my first taste of Lady Lit and I LOVED IT! You don't have to be middle aged to enjoy this one. The glamorous parties, the intriguing situations, and the slow spiritual awakening of several characters all lead to one satisfied sigh when God works things out in the end. I have to admit I didn't see the end coming in the beginning, but I REALLY love the way the author wove several themes together, which led the reader to ultimately rejoicing with Dee in the end. Poor Dee was so into herself that she just didn't see how God was working around her. I'm impressed with how the author made me like Dee despite herself. I empathized with her from page one. I appreciated how the author showed that Dee's image of herself hadn't changed even though her outward body had transformed. We're all the same on the inside. True beauty is in the heart. The strong moral theme in regard to the sacredness of marriage touched me profoundly, and though it's clear that Dee had valid Biblical grounds for divorce, I love how the author worked out the issues to convey a profound truth...that marriages are built and destroyed by both partners. It's never a totally one way street. Major kudos for Allison Bottke on her first novel. You can bet I'll be first in line for her book coming out in 2007. Love her unique author "voice" and loved this Lady Lit. It's one of a kind!
