For over 40 years I have been on one diet after another with only temporary results. I have spent countless amounts of money on food plans, exercise equipment, gym memberships, and even crazy gimmicks I hoped would work. I would lose some weight only to gain back more. As I bought this book, I thought here goes one more thing that probably won’t work either. Instead, I have really been astounded. The three-fold approach of spirit, soul, and body has been an amazing journey. I have never considered myself an emotional person. In fact, I have prided myself in dealing well with difficult situations in my life. Through LIFL I began to discover that I had buried emotions instead of dealing with them. It was like a dam broke and I began facing the flood of emotions I had stuffed down with food most of my adult life. With the Lord’s help I began to heal and learn how to react to pain, anger, fear, and other negative emotions in a healthy way. The cravings have stopped. The self talk that accompanies consistent failure is dying away. I am convinced that diet and exercise alone will never solve being overweight. It is the addition of the third element, the spiritual component, that is so key. If you have struggled as I did, with an almost hopeless battle to lose weight, this approach may be your answer.

I am using this information to supplement my Weight Watchers (WW) plan. It adds more depth (Spiritual) that isn't part of WW. It has a lot of info that goes much deeper into life choices besides Spiritual as well. Many of the suggestions follow some of the basic ideas of WW. I find it very worthwhile and would recommend on its own without other diet plans. I would go to one of their paid programs I could afford it. I am sure the paid program really dynamic.

Excellent book, so we'll written. Reminds me of the 12 Step program. Love all the scriptural references. Gets to the root of the food addiction problem: We are spiritually starving, distracted by other things, which in turn causes physical and emotional hunger. Well worth reading. Have a highlighter ready to use, or a pen for marginal notes. I know that I'll be reading it more than once, but repetition is the best teacher.

So far, so good. Reading this book is both inspirational, and insightful, even just in the first few pages. It deals with some of the issues that might be your "triggers" for eating when you really aren't hungry, and it helps guide you through what often can be challenging, to say the least. For those who have struggled with their weight, it's a good read and insightful. For those who have not had to deal with such a struggle ...you should read this to better-understand those who are struggling with weight control.

As a an overeater in Recovery, this book is literally a God send. It provides practical advice on how to have a healthy lifestyle, loose weight and keep it off. I bought the Kindle version, but wish I had bought the paperback because of all the highlighting I did. I plan to go back and re-read it numerous times to fully comprehend all that is contained therein. Fair warning: This is a Christ-centered reference.

I began reading this book to start a journey to a healthy life on my own; soon several of my friends had purchased the book and we have started doing the study together, What a wonderful look at ME all of me, not just my weight and what I do or don't eat. This book is about making all of me more healthy, body, mind and soul. I am enjoying my journey from where I am today to where God would have me be. To God goes the glory!

This book is a comprehensive book about healing. The result is weight loss but that's not the goal. The goal is healing the pain that is causing the overeating, which is eveidence that the pain exists.
The concepts and healing process that invites God into the process reminds me of another book called "The Search for Significance." The appraoch is similar and there are practical tools that you can incorporate into your time with God that can help root out the lies that you might be believing about yourself, about God and about how to live that do not line up with the word of God.
A great read for anyone dealing with any kind of compulsion who is seeking healing.
I haven't finished reading it yet. There are a lot of good thoughts here. I haven't yet figured out how it all works. It seems like each section is long, but maybe it takes long to break through my thick skull. I always have struggled with fill-in-the blanks books (since I won't write in the blanks). Maybe I'd write in the electronic version if the electronic version allowed me to fill in the blanks.
