Success is due to our stretching to the challenges of life. There’s no such thing as a man who was born great. Some of us have to be racing for our lives before we’re motivated to stretch. You show me a person that is in a strategic leadership position and I’ll show you a person who will be disrupted. People who are schedule oriented, who have their to-do lists, and who have strong goals will always have some tension over disruptions. Don’t try to survive.

On a warm day some time ago, my wife, Margaret, and I were traveling in a rural part of Ohio, and we were thirsty. The fast-food restaurant where we stopped had ice but no diet Coke. It seemed easy enough to me when I made my request, but the countergirl said with great conviction, I’m sorry, I can’t do that. No doubt she had a No, I can’t mind-set that needed to be reprogrammed. I looked back at her, smiled, and said, Yes, you can!. Her face brightened and she replied, OK!

This book is full of great wisdom and advice. It is especially helpful for those in leadership positions or those who desire to be in leadership positions. I especially enjoyed the lessons of leadership drawn from shepherd parables - know them, grow them, and show them. However, the author would sometimes full the chapter with too much information. He will have a chapter that explains four concepts, and have six or seven explanations of each concept, with some of those c concepts having for our five concepts of its own. Other times, a paragraph would be filled with sentences that don't make sense and do not even seen to relate to search other. Still, I believe the book is worth reading, and you can take a lot back from it.

I have read many of Dr. Maxwell's books. This is one of his earlier ones and I think it is excellent. Anyone who takes the responsibilities of character and leadership seriously should be acquainted with this author's work.

There are few books that I would recommend to reread every year. This is one of those books! In addition, the audiobook is very well done. My only regret about the audio is that it was impossible to highlight and listen at the same time. Perhaps that is a good thing, I would have to highlight most of the book. It is that good. Get it. Read it.

You can be all you can be but it takes faith in God and the courage to take the risk of applying the message in this book.
Mr. Maxwell inspires us to stop in our steps, reevaluate our course and commit to living for God and ultimately the betterment of mankind. His work is instructional, educational, spiritual and illustrates the ultimate challenge is within reach in every Christian.
