Book copyright 1984. 312pgs- Has won 2 awards.

Not to long before her father- Dr. Rulon Allred was
murdered he asked her to write about him,his wives,
children and polygamy. He told her is was her calling.

She has done just that--with this book.

A very good read. Some is hurtful and heart breaking
but its all true and filled with love.

Emotional truth that transends all uniqueness.

Dorothy is now a main stream member of LDS. She
and her husband have their own business-4 kids.

I've met Dorothy, she is a wonderful writer. I met her father Rulon and believe she did a wonderful job telling his and her family's story.

Interesting life of Polygamy. It is interesting the way people believe and consider it religon. It is sad
what people do in the name of religion. I wanted to know the interactions of family members toward the lifestyle of
polygamy, and found this book rewarding in that aspect, but to claim it part of religion is disheartening.

An excellent portrait of the author's relationship with her father, who becomes leader of a Mormon Fundamentalist group. While the pressures he bears brings growth to many in the extended family, Dorothy feels the weight coming down between her and her father, seemingly severing them - eternally.
Through her journey into adulthood, she finally sees her father's true love for his wives and children, even all the group members, a revelation that shakes her unsteady convictions.
With a forboding sense of doom, he allows her to chronicle his last days...
A beautiful story of transformation.
