“[Encountering the Manuscripts] focuses on the most significant New Testament manuscripts from the perspective of paleography and textual criticism. Paleography pertains to the dating of the manuscripts, as well as to the calligraphic features of the manuscripts themselves. Each manuscript has a story to tell; each manuscript gives us a window into the transmission of the New Testament text in the earliest centuries. Textual criticism pertains to the critical evaluation of the trustworthiness of the text of each manuscript with respect to recovering the original wording of the Greek New Testament. This volume merges the two areas of study by looking at both paleography and textual criticism as we encounter the New Testament manuscripts.”

the finest objective resource of confirmable data on the New Testament.to understand this volume one might need to use a dictionary for tech terms (e.g. recto, verso) yet a small amount of research yields a giant light shined into a subject of great interest. To know the earliest manuscripts is to know that we have not been fooled. In order for such early work to exist in so many languages (e.g. the miniscules) means it is very reasonable to conclude 1st century authorship.

Amazingly informative

I've read this text three times, and I still refer back to it. It is an invaluable resource for the serious bible student. The section on nomina sacra is worth the price alone.

Good introduction to the early NT manuscripts and the science of NT textual criticism. Unfortunately, Comfort does not seem to provide a rationale/method as to why the dates he provides for the manuscripts are usually earlier than the standard mss dates appearing in the Nestle-Aland or other standard text critical works.

While I was not satisfied with the description of the condition of the book, I have given you this five star rating because of your willingness to make good on your merchandise. All but the markings within the book are acceptable. I prefer to keep the book.

I wish some of the greek terms in this book were in greek. Other than that, the content of the book accomplishes its stated goal. I wish some of the lists of manuscripts were put in the back as an appendix.

Loved it.
Kindle format is clumsy. Page turn, mobility in text to review, return to where you were, punctuation all faulty. Book great. Kindle weak.
