This is a very scholarly, informative, Catholic Study Bible, yet it is very easy to read. The commentary is easy to read not in a simplistic way, but in a flowing, well written, very understandable way. It reminds one of a great novel -- nonfiction, of course. There has never been, nor will there ever be, another book like the Bible! How can anyone NOT believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God!? You will not regret purchasing and studying the Navarre Study Bible -- complete, or as individual books like this! AND, the RSV Bible, is not gender-neutral or politically correct! It is simply THE BIBLE!

I have the whole Navarre Bible now. I purchased it not only to increase my own knowledge of the Word of God, but also to help others in our Bible Study. The Navarre was recommended to me a long time ago, but I held off when I found it would be expensive encompassing so many books. Having again been recently recommended, I decided it was time. The beauty of the Navarre Bible is that it includes commentary from the Early Church Fathers all the way through Vatican II. Some have said that the Catholic Church had forbidden reading the bible. This is a huge misunderstanding. The Church forbade private interpretation of the Bible. The Bible’s relevance is timeless but what is most important is that Jesus gave us the Magisterium (lead by the Holy Spirit) to guide us to the fullness of truth through both scripture and Tradition. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Deeper understanding of scripture makes the Word of God come alive in my life. The Captivity Letters is simply a necessary part of the whole. I highly recommend it.

You just can not go wrong with a Navarre commentary. They bring in so many of the Early Fathers and what they thought, plus spiritual applications from folks like St. Josemaria Escriva (practical but profound). I highlight so much, using different colors, that all my Navarre look like a rainbow exploded in them! :) Three of us get together and use them as a way to do Bible study. Fantastic!
