Christian persecution of the Jews could have been avoided had more Christians understood what the Bible says. July 13, 2017 Israel Today Staff. Biblical illiteracy among Christians (certainly in the West) is a major contributing factor to its present backslidden state, which is why I heartily recommend R T Kendall’s book Why Jesus Died, published in 2011 by Monarch.

Kendall is the author of more than fifty-five books, including Total Forgiveness, Holy Fire, Grace, and The Anointing: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow.

But why did Jesus die? In the end the Roman authorities and the Jewish council wanted Jesus dead. More recently in his book Christian Theology: An Introduction Alister E. McGrath groups his discussion into four central themes but stresses that these themes are not mutually exclusive. He was a political and social trouble-maker. But what made the death of Jesus more significant than the countless other crucifixions carried out by the Romans and witnessed outside the city walls by the people of Jerusalem? Christians believe that Jesus was far more than a political radical. His four themes are: The cross as sacrifice.

Read in context, Isaiah 53 presents a powerful testimony a promised one . There are a number of reasons why this passage refers to the Messiah

Read in context, Isaiah 53 presents a powerful testimony a promised one who would die for the sins of God's people and rise again. It certainly points to Jesus Christ. There are a number of reasons why this passage refers to the Messiah. First, this passage mentions an individual person. The references are in the singular. Nevertheless, it makes sense to interpret Isaiah 53 as referring to Jesus due to the substitutionary nature of the servant’s death, his subsequent vindication, and the lack of an alternative explanation. 18 Therefore, Isaiah 53 presents a strong component to the cumulative case for Jesus as the Messiah, and one should definitely use it in such discussions.

An exposition of one of the most famous chapters in the Bible, Isaiah 53. Dr Kendall reflects on the nature and meaning of the Atonement.
