I really love the ESV. I appreciate the quality of the translation and it's use of modern day terms and phrases without watering down the meaning. After growing up on the KJV and NIV, this is just so much more natural to read and is more true to the original languages in a number of areas where politics or poetry style guided the translators of the KJV.

Having switched to the ESV quite awhile ago, I've found that it reads naturally and that really helps you realize how real God is and how down to earth the Bible is.

Pros: easy to read, available in many formats

Cons: none that I can think of

Excellent, studious but fluid translation. Aiming for an accurate translation without loss of literary integrity. As a student of English language bibles, I believe it to be on par with the Geneva, and the politicized/ modified Authorized (1611 King James). Highly recommended.

This new edition also adds two-page introductions to each Bible book and 32 pages of full-color maps of Bible lands and illustrations of historic biblical sites, structures, and objects for ready reference and insight. The ESV New Classic Reference Bible’s balance of helpful reference features and convenient size make it an ideal Bible for everyday use—at home, at church, at school, and on the road.

The e-book version is very difficult to navigate. As one reference may lead to another, and certain concordances may emerge worth viewing, I found myself often lost in the text with no easy path back. As a reference tool, it is exceptionally clumsy to use and lacks utilities to support scholarly exegesis. This .e-book was not thought out in terms of professional usability.

This is the most useful Kindle Bible I own. Navigation is the key to a Bible I read for study. This Bible navigates flawlessly and intuitively.

This has helped me hone in on God's word for the deeper understanding I crave and need.

This particular edition of the Sacred Scriptures combines the excellence of the ESV translation with a good, solid binding. While some of the earlier ESVs from Crossway Publishers were poorly bound, this edition is a welcomed step forward in quality. As the pastor of a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod parish, I am very pleased that our Synod's new hymnal, lectionary and instructional materials make almost exclusive use of the ESV. It is a far better translation than either the politically correct, gender-inclusive NRSV, or the liturgically tone-deaf NIV. Indeed, to those of us who grew up with the RSV, the ESV "sounds like" the Bible in a way that other recent translations do not. My only caveat with regard to the Classic Reference Bible is that the print used for the center-column references seems a bit too small for my almost 50-year-old eyes, even with the assistance of bifocals. I should note, however, that my younger parishioners, who use this version for our Adult Bible Study, experience no such difficulty. (Someone who would like an ESV Bible with slightly larger print should check the Deluxe Reference Edition, also sold by Amazon.) If you're looking for a good contemporary translation published in a quality binding, this ESV would be a fine choice.
As it is set up it is hard to navigate from one passage to another. I love all versions of the Bible but have get to find one that works as well as the old fashioned pages.
I love my Kindle and it's great for just reading but a bear for research.
