I have a 6-year old son obsessed with electric motors. He spotted this in a local bookstore and didn't want to leave without it. So for his 7th birthday we grabbed a couple of these for him and they're perfect for his little "electronic experiments".

The kit consists of two small electric motors, two battery packs (batteries not included) and a number of "robot" projects that consist of card-stock paper and light plastic/vinyl pieces. Assembled they're a thrill a for him and while they're not going to last, at his age nothing much does - and for the price (we paid $4.50 for the first kit and they're now priced at $10) what more could be expected?

At his age this is an ideal perfect gift - nothing that can hurt him but he can put together projects suitable for his age. In fact the reason I'm back on this page is because his 10-year old sister has also been thrilled with the kit and she wants one for Christmas. Overall a great value that's already been worth the purchase and it's particularly suited to children aged 6-10 who either have a budding interest in electronics or things that can be assembled that 'do something'.

this was a cheap, fun kit, which I sent to two of my grandsons, who had a lot of fun assembling the robots. well worth the cost.

The projects in this kit are interesting and educational. They have all worked for us. However, the pieces are made of very thin cardstock, and get ruined easily. Even though everything works great, don't expect to keep this one around for long.

OK, I have purchased the "Alien Robots Kit" from Amazon. I'm surprised that the truth about this book/kit has taken so long to surface. The book part is not very scientific and the bulk of the kit (25 of the 37 parts) is cardboard. True, there are two small (7/8" long, not including the protruding shaft) can motors, two single AA battery holders, several plastic tubes - smaller in diameter than soda straws, and two plastic "rivets." Beyond that, everything is flat, including the few plastic circular parts. The cover shows a vehicle with a cone shaped screw on one end. That is another of the flat cardboard parts. The screw is printed on the cardboard, it is not three dimensional. What's there to like about this kit? Well, there are the two motors. My grandson is into Legos and Lego motors are expensive. I'm hoping that we can figure out a way to integrate the motors in this set with the Lego Crazy Action Contraptions set he is also getting for Christmas.

I bought this kit/book for my son because he loves to create and build things.

When it arrived I read through the book before giving it to my son and was very pleasantly surprised at how well it explained scientific things without being to complicated with a really good use of pictures. I especially liked the page about 'shaky sounds' and the picture of how the human ear works. This is a kids book but I found myself learning (maybe I'm still a big kid).

When I gave it to him he couldn't wait to get started and quickly cleared a space and began building the first robot. He found it simple to make, which was good as if it had been too complicated then he would simply have lost interest. He is very impressed with this kit and was very proud when he showed me what he had made and proceeded to show me this robot moving along the table top and then explaining how it works using friction.

I found this kit to be excellent value for money and it's simplicity combined with the precision of the parts made it all fit together and work well. All in all it kept my son engaged and happy and more importantly off the xbox so that can only be a good thing.
