This book is the last of the Quint Saga, and is a violent and bloody tale of greed, treachery and revenge. Quint and his father are Sky Pirates, in command of the sky ship The Galerider. The story takes place for the most part aboard the ship, as their adventures take them from The Edge to the Deepwoods.

Edge Chronicles 3: Midnight Over Sanctaphrax (The Edge Chronicles) Hardcover. For those not familiar with the books in this fantastically imaginative series, I'd like to provide a list of the previous books before going into book nine. The series so far is divided into three trilogies, namely the Twig Saga, the Rook Saga and the Quint Saga. The series is sometimes confusing chronologically, as the events of the Quint Saga actually happen first, but the first book of this particular trilogy is actually book four in the series.

Clash of the Sky Galleons was the ninth book in The Edge Chronicles, the third book chronologically, and the third book in the Quint trilogy. In the events of the book, Quint was pulled away from his studies in Sanctaphrax to join his father, Wind Jackal, in an attempt to kill his evil quartermaster, Turbot Smeal. In the beginning of the book we find Wind Jackal and Quint descending into the abandoned Cliff Quarries from the Galerider.

Paul Stewart, Chris Riddell. W e’d best make a move. Quint glanced across at Maris. Her face was ashen and drawn, and there were dark rings beneath her eyes. Her face was ashen and drawn, and there were dark rings beneath her eyes ight before - although when their eyes met, Maris gave Quint a reassuring smile. In front of her, the plate of tilder sausages and snowbird eggs had barely been touched, but at Wind Jackal’s command, she stood up and drew her cloak about her.

Their other collaborations include the Barnaby Grimes series and the Far Flung Adventures, the first of which, Fergus Crane, won the 2004 Gold Smarties Prize. Paul Stewart is the author of a number of previous titles for children including The Midnight Hand and The Wakening (a Federation of Children's Book Groups Pick of the Year) for the Yearling list.

In the penultimate book in the Edge Chronicles series, Quint is travelling with his father, Wind Jackal, on a mission to track down and bring to justice Turbot Smeal, the man who started the fire that killed their family. Having left behind his studies at the Knights Academy, Quint is now eager to learn from his father what it really means to be a sky pirate. But, consumed by his desire to capture Smeal, Wind Jackal’ s judgment is flawed, and his actions endanger the lives of his crew — and his son. As they travel from the taverns and backstreets of Undertown and the wonders of the shipbuilders’ yards, to the dark dangers of the Deepwoods, Quint and Maris become separated from the rest of the crew. Finally, at the mysterious, ghostly sky-wreck in Open Sky, they discover the truth about Smeal.

Without spoiling the series for newcomers, I'll just say that the character Twig is from the third generation, Rook is from the fifth, and Quint is from the second generation of the character chain.

Book 1: Beyond the Deepwoods- Twig
Book 2: Stormchaser - Twig
Book 3: Midnight Over Sanctaphrax- Twig
Book 4: The Curse of the Gloamglozer- Quint
Book 5: The Last of the Sky Pirates- Rook
Book 6: Vox- Rook
Book 7: Freeglader- Rook
Book 8: The Winter Knights- Quint
Book 9: Clash of the Sky Galleons - Quint

There is also a book of four short stories called "The Lost Barkscrolls", and the final book is also allegedly in progress.

Many lives are lost during the skirmishes, whether fighting the weather, carnivorous Bloodoak trees, vicious Shryke warriors or various mortal enemies, making for one of the bloodiest books in the series.

Although always interesting, it tends to get carried away at times, making the story a bit longer than it should be. The battle of the title, for example, doesn't get going until way down the book, and then is over all too quickly. However, as is the case with all the books in the series, the illustrations and character names and descriptions make for a quick page-turning read.

In order to fully enjoy this book, you'll need to read at least the first two Quint books, but why deny yourself the opportunity to read them all? Highly recommended for all young readers and for bigger folk also - Now where's that movie version?

This is just an awesome book and series. It is hard to give it enough praise, but we have all read it multiple times. My 10 year old son refuses to stop reading the series from start to finish. Since purchasing this a few months ago he has read all 10 or so books 4-5 times through already. He always finds something new and interesting each time he reads it. For any fans of sci-fi and fantasy this is absolutely one of the best series we have ever read!

My daughter has read these books several times from the library. Since purchasing the series, she has read them at least 2 times through in the last month. The Edge Chronicles are VERY entertaining for both adults and children. The artwork is beautiful.

Honestly, I don't really have much to say here. I will tell the truth though. I'm 19 years old and have been reading these books since the first one came out when I was about 13. I LOVE them. I own them all- the hardcover versions. I just recently finished my collection. I can reread them over and over again and never get bored, even at 19. I like them more than the Harry Potter series. If you're not sure about buying these books for yourself or for someone else, just do it! They are worth every penny.
