Troubling Transparency. Today, transparency is a widely heralded value, and the . Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is often held up as one of the transparency movement’s canonical achievements. Yet while many view the law as a powerful tool for journalists, activists, and ordinary citizens to pursue the public good, FOIA is beset by massive backlogs, and corporations and the powerful have become adept at using it for their own interests. Jeremy Tate never saw the other car coming. He was looking out the passenger side window when they were hit. He heard a pop, felt his body violently jerk forward, and found himself face-down in an airbag. The next thing Jeremy remembered was waking up in the hospital with an IV stuck in his arm and a police detective at his bedside, who was there to inform him that his mother was dead. This is the opening paragraph to TRANSPARENCY, a novel for children by Dave Wasemann Jr. 6th grader Jeremy Tate must learn to cope with the loss of his mother as he transitions from his old life living in downtown Chicago to rural southern Indiana with his grandparents. As he struggles to fit in at his new school, Jeremy is also burdened with frequent, debilitating migraines, which he later learns are a precursor to the emergence of telepathy. Jeremy's life becomes even more complicated when his estranged father, who is also a telepath, resurfaces after ten years to thwart a kidnapping attempt made by rival telepaths who want to exploit Jeremy for their own means. Jeremy is then forced into a life on the run, where he must learn to master his new telepathic abilities while reconnecting with his father. TRANSPARENCY is a character-driven science fiction/fantasy novel that is full of adventure, yet deals with very real issues of loss, regret, estrangement, and forgiveness. For readers ages 10 and up.

I picked this book up not knowing what to expect and I was very pleasantly surprised. Wasemann delivers a simple, straightforward story that kept me interested throughout. This book isn't the kind of complex, nuanced book that I typically go for, but it has genuine warmth and pacing that reminds me of some of the books I enjoyed as a kid (Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time for example).

If you're looking for a nice, plot driven read or want to pick up a book for a young adult give this one a try.

I just got the book this morning and already have read most of the book. It keeps you wanting to read more...I tried putting it down but wanted to see what happened next..It keeps you wondering what is going to happen to Jeremy and his long lost Dad..I can't wait to finish it...I will write again after I read the whole book..Well I finished the book, you will be surprised by the ending...

Wow! I just finished Transparency and I recommend it to everyone. This great book is about a boy named Jeremy Tate who loses his mom in a car accident. Then, one day Jeremy finds out he's a telepath, when Jeremy and his dad reunite after 10 years. Next thing he knows, Jeremy is on the run with his dad! This is a great book that has many great twists. Read this book!

My daughter and I have read this book and we both really enjoyed it! The main character is a young boy named Jeremy who finds out that he possesses a special gift that he inherited from his father. This gift of telepathy is wanted to be controlled by many people who would abuse the power it brings. As Jeremy and his father try to stay one step ahead of those who want to use their powers for evil, Jeremy learns about life as a telepath and develops a new relationship with his father. The ending was climactic and not at all what we expected. This book was a quick but adventurous read that my daughter and I were able to enjoy together.

I read this book in an afternoon! I ordered it for my son but wanted to preview it a little. I started reading and couldn't put it down. The story hooked me from the beginning. It was exciting, but there were also some tender moments. Very enjoyable read!
