by Dick King-Smith, illustrated by David Parkins. King-Smith's "determined" Sophie, who first appeared, at four, in Sophie's Snail (1989), has always been a winning character; such vicissitudes as a suburban domicile, obstreperous twin brothers, and her parents' proscriptions against pets (mellowing more with each book) have never diverted her from her goal of becoming a "lady farmer.

This is a book that has stuck with me through the years, i was probably 4 or 5 the first time i read this book and i just think it is amazing! Its about sophie, a very ambitious girl who is determined to have her own farm when she is older so she is saving up for her animals a cow, pig and hens. She is not your typical little girl who loves fairies and princesses she is more of a tomboy so it is a perfect girl for the less girly, or if your daughter is like me and is girly but grew up with boys! I am thinking this book is the reason i want a pig when I'm older! It is a must read and is one of those stories that sticks with you (i'm now 20).

I read this book to my daughter, Sophia, when she was 3. -- We still laugh and talk about this little girl today, and my Sophia is now 6 years old! We both fell in love with Sophie's Snail and are working on acquiring all of the Sophie books, as well as other Dick King-Smith titles. Sophia is now reading on her own and it won't be much longer before she can handle these wonderful and charming stories. They'll be a terrific addition to our children's library. True keepsakes.

This was a very charming book about a young girl who aspires to be a farmer. She keeps herds of insects as practice and is saving to buy a cow named blossom, two hens named April and May, a pony named Shorty and a pig named Measels. I think that this was a wonderful book about a determined child with a large imagination, and you should buy it for the determined child with a large imagination in your life.
