My daughter was traumatized by the depiction of Kaya being hit with a switch by The SwitchWoman. My kid literally burst into hysterical tears and couldn’t sleep. I feel terrible.
Very good book. Well- written and makes you want more. Good character development and good plot. Will read more of this series.
I read this book to my daughter and could not have been more pleased. I find all American Girl Books well written and enjoyable to read. I like the historical parts in them as well, actually we used them for homeschooling because of that.
Kaya is one of our favorite girls. It was a great springboard for learning about the Nez Perce culture and history. These books may not be of the highest quality in terms of literature, but are great for building interest in history.

These American Girl books are wonderful. All are a good read full of adventurous, empowered girls in an interesting, historic context. My daughter loved them as a child and now our grand-daughter is reading them.
Great American Girl story to engage the imagination of young girls, and to give them a glimpse the first real American girls.
So glad I ordered this little treasure!! Thank you!
