Nancy Tillman is the author and illustrator of the New York Times best-selling picture book On the Night You Were Born . I found the soothing, repetitious verses with the refrain of "It's time to sleep, my love" to be soothing

Her other books include Wherever You Are: My Love Will Find You, The Spirit of Christmas, and Tumford the Terrible. A former advertising executive, Tillman now writes and illustrates full-time. She lives in Tualatin, Oregon. I found the soothing, repetitious verses with the refrain of "It's time to sleep, my love" to be soothing. The School Lobrary Journal criticized the writing stating that it was too redundant. My son finds it restful and it lulls him to sleep.

Nancy Tillman; Written by Eric Metaxas. Her other books include Wherever You Are: My Love Will Find You, The Spirit of Christmas, and Tumford the Terrible.

Listen to Sally Taylor sing It's Time to Sleep, My Love. Readers of Tillman's previous title will also recognize the reappearance of the glistening moon, this time at the quarter, which blows sparkles of light across the evening sky. A luxuriant bedtime retreat for children and parents alike. With a rhythm similar to Mem Fox's Time for Bed (1993), fishes croon, a turtledove coos, an otter utters and other animals otherwise sing bedtime praises to a tired little girl. As children nestle down to sleep, much of the natural world around us is also settling down for the night.

It's a decent book but if you are thinking about getting it because you like the other Nancy Tillman books please be aware that unlike "On the Night You Were Born" that was written and illustrated by Tillman, this book was only illustrated by her. The story was written by someone else and you can tell the difference in the style of writing. Also, if you read the back of the book it has glowing quotes, but not about this book. The praises are for "On the Night You Were Born" which I found strange. Why would you put remarks/praises about another book on the back of this one??

My 2 year old was sold on this book after one night of reading it. I bought it on a whim because it looked sweet and I enjoyed another book of hers,. Not expecting it to become a staple in our bedtime routine. It's been over about a week now and every night after we read it she hops into bed and proclaims "Go sleep, My love." We've always read a story or two before bed, but nothing has gotten her so excited about bedtime before. It's helped immensely in our winding down for sleeping struggles.

Words are not bold enough to read in a relaxed setting when trying to get my child ready for bed

It's Time To Sleep, My Love, is a lovely bedtime book for a boy or a girl. It is one of the few books we own that completely captures my little boy's attention. He sits and studies the big, fanciful watercolor illustrations and listens to the soothing refrains of the verses and is lulled into a quieter state. He knows it's his special bedtime story and loves it.

Every page is generously illustrated with lavish watercolors of children and animals winding down for a night's rest. For example, you have a small child perched on the back of a drifting swan as though going on the journey of sleep amd dreams for the evening. There is a child curled up with a sleeping panda in the fork of a tree branch. The interactions between people and children really appeal to small ones and encourage them to use their imaginations.

I found the soothing, repetitious verses with the refrain of "It's time to sleep, my love" to be soothing. The School Lobrary Journal criticized the writing stating that it was too redundant. My son finds it restful and it lulls him to sleep. They also complained that some of the verses would trip up parent tongues. I found the beauty of the words and verses to be old-fashioned and a little reminiscent of old poetry. We used to appreciate finding beauty and meaning in words, and it is beneficial to children to make them think. Overall, I thought the wording was fanciful, simple, and lovely.

I highly recommend this book for your child and hope you get as much enjoyment out of the bedtime tradition as we have.

We love Nancy Tillman's books so we bought this one for our 2 year old twins and they love it. It's the perfect length for a bedtime story and like all of her books, Nancy Tillman writes in a soft, singsong way which makes it great for a bedtime story. The pictures are beautiful and my kids love to point out the different animals. We purchased the board book version and it is perfect for us since our toddlers can be a bit rough with pages. We will continue to buy all of these books because they are beautiful stories that are perfect to read before bedtime. We highly recommend them!

Wonderful book with a sweet story that we read very frequently to my one year old before bed time. It was given to her as a gift on her first birthday and we love it so much that I recently purchased it for a relative's book shower that was held before the birth of her child. This book is simple with a sweet message. It's perfect to start reading to infants and has also taught my daughter several less common animals, such as otters and pelicans. Highly recommended!

I also recommend checking out Nancy Tillman's other books because we have some others and they are just as wonderful as this one.

This is the third Nancy Tillman book I have purchased for my son. Her writing is really heartfelt and sweet. My background is in art and I truly love the illustrations in her books. While I love her books, this one is probably my least favorite of hers that I've purchased so far. It's a little more repetitive than the others and my son sometimes loses interest. I do still recommend it though. They are very well done and very cute. I get a little emotional at times when I read them.
I'm not crazy about the words in this. It's alot of "It's time to sleep", which I'm already saying alot of during bedtime. The last thing I need is to read a book with it, over and over. My son does like all the moons in the book; that is the only reason I'm keeping it.
