The Boxcar Children Series was created by Gertrude Chandler Warner, a teacher, when she realized that there were few, if any, books for children that were both easy and fun to read. As a child, she had spent hours watching trains near her home, and often dreamed about what it would be like to live in a caboose or freight car. In each story, she chose a special setting and introduced unpredictable, unusual or eccentric characters, to help highlight the Aldens’ independence and resourcefulness.

Gertrude Chandler Warner was born in 1890 in Putnam, Connecticut, where she taught school and wrote The Boxcar Children . The Box Car Children series is just that with a mystery in each book that the four youngsters (and sometimes their grandfather) work to solve

My 4 year old has taken a liking to chapter books so after finishing the Magic Tree House collection, I was looking for another series that was wholesome yet interesting. The Box Car Children series is just that with a mystery in each book that the four youngsters (and sometimes their grandfather) work to solve. The language is sometimes old-fashioned and the stories take a little more time to get traction but my son enjoys them and I enjoy reading them too him!
