My 3 year old daughter follows along and I believe she understands the concepts that her brother and I discuss and she participates in the discussion and is already getting a grasp of what safe choices she has to make. As the kids grow older, I am sure there are books that are more in-depth about the types of self-defense techniques or situations they may find themselves in (such as peer pressure, drugs, kidnapping, etc) but at thi age level, this is really enough.

I bought several books to start the conversation with my kindergartener about certain precarious situations which I hope he will never find himself in but that must be addressed at some point. My biggest concern was that I didn't want to scare him. This book is so positive. It focuses on finding solutions and making safe choices rather than frightening the child. The text was very simple and straightforward and encourages a start to a discussion. We start by reading the text and looking at the illustration on each page then we spend about 5 minutes just discussing each scenario. The other books were extremely complicated and somewhat scary for a 5 year old, using dark colors, scary faces, or just rambling on and on to the point that even an adult would have a hard time following. Each page had a beautiful illustration with vivid colors and a safe/unsafe situation and how to resolve it. I liked that the book covered a wide array of situations, such as how to be safe at home, at shcoo, in the mall, with strangers etc. I really love this book and I highly recommend it.

This book is great as an overall introduction to safety book. It talks about finding adults you trust to help with unsafe situations. I was hoping it was more about road safety and using crosswalks as the cover implies. However, it talks in broad generalities about many safety situations. It works as a great intro to a unit, but if you need to focus on one particular area of safety like road safety or fire safety, this probably won't be your best option. Still, it does offer valuable information for the Pre K-1 audience.

These books are great for teaching Social Skills to Pre-K and Kindergartners. They are engaging and have the perfect amount of words on each page. The books also include ideas for discussion and activities at the back of the book.

I am a School Counselor and love this whole series of books! When I was searching for a book to cover safety for Kindergarten this was by far the best one I found. It covers everything to keep our little ones safe and introduce big ideas that can be followed up at home. In the back of all of these books are follow-up questions and activities that are great for parents and teachers.

I should have read the reviews first. The cover and title of this book make you think that they will talk about safety hazards such as crossing the street and being more careful. It's a pleasant book to read but it was simply not what I was expecting.

So simply and intentionally written AND our 4 year old likes the stories, understands the lessons and even applies the concepts! Five stars for practical and effective parenting help!

I was searching for a book that would help my children know how to be safe when I'm not around. This book had pages that vaguely discussed being safe around things like toasters, knives, fire, etc. There was one page that talked about strangers but there was really nothing about tricky people or good touch and bad touch or private parts or what to do if someone makes them uncomfortable or any of those topics. From reading the reviews, I thought this book was going to be just what I was looking for, but unfortunately it's not. It was really vague and didn't really even open up much conversation about other things. The illustrations are cute and it's definitely an easy read, but it just wasn't what I was looking for.
I would really give this 2.5 stars ...

The content of the book is pretty straight-forward and certainly appropriate for young children (I purchased this for a five-year-old boy). A helpful reminder to small children to be cautious. In my opinion, it read more like a pamphlet downloaded from a safety website than a children's book, but I appreciated the general message the author was trying to convey.

***For $7.36, however, I believe a lot more thought/attention should have been paid to the ebook. The kindle version of this book is in BLACK AND WHITE (on all versions of the kindle, including the iphone, ipad, pc, and mac versions). It does not have "real" page numbers, which makes reading it like an actual book nearly impossible ... the words do not line up with the pictures, when you zoom in/out you often have an illustration on one page and a couple of words on another, etc.
