Great read for young adults! I purchased this series for my grandaughter who are 12 and 15 but wanted to make sure the content was appropriate. I began to read the first book and ended up reading all four! The authour has done an excellent job incorporating lessons learned and keeping the young reader interested by talking their language and throwing in hilarious thoughts and events. Well done Nikki Carter!

It Is What It Is by Nikki Carter is a fun, hip read with tons of laugh-out-loud moments. Gia is a high-school sophomore who just wants to have fun. But her circle of friends and family is making it such a hard task. For starters, Gia's mother may not have gotten the memo on how not cool bratty step- sisters are. If she had, Gia would not be stuck at Candy's rib cage; Candy dishes out her fair share of sticky situations and dances on Gia's every nerve. And although she is the high steppers co-captain, Gia's problems only get worse. When Valerie, the other co-captain, commandeers Gia to rekindle an old flame between she and Kevin (Gia's BFF), sparks fly when Hope (Gia's cousin) is added to the mix. Yes, she wants him, too! Can you say dilemma? Now Gia must navigate the waves to extinguish all the fires surrounding her.

Nikki Carter penned a realistic and refreshing tale that pulls you into teen angst. The dialogue is funny, the scenes are vivid, and I loved how I could really relate to characters less than half my age. One message that will easily capture its audience is how sacrificing yourself to fit in is not the `bidness.' Messages that will reach audiences revolve around patience, trust, confidence, and honesty. This quick read captures your attention and leaves you craving more with good examples of the highs and lows of friendships, faith, and fun. Pick-up It Is What It Is to be entertained, enlightened, and energized.

Although socially challenged in the previous, Step To This: So for Real Series, Gia has gained recognition in It Is What It Is.

Fabulosity runs all through Gia's veins even if she isn't sporting the latest designer labeled duds. She's pretty, bright, a gifted dancer and choreographer. She also hangs out with a crew of teens who are equally fabulous in their own right.

Hope, Gia's cousin, is boy crazy and has her sights on Gia's best friend, Ricky. She will stop at nothing to get Ricky to take notice, even if it means humiliating herself.

Ricky is attractive and athletic. Yet, he appears to be a bit uneasy with his increasing popularity. He's the type of young male that any mother would welcome dating their daughter.

Lastly, there's Kevin. He's courteous and bashful and has a crush on Gia. As he begins to come out of his shell, Gia can't help but take notice to the new and improved Kevin.

This is a fantastic read geared towards young adults who happen to be Christians. I truly enjoyed reading it. What a great birthday gift for young adults.

My daughter read the first book and was so excited there was a follow-up. She is Nikki Carter's newest biggest fan. The good part is these books have her reading, she typically doesn't read. She thinks these are some of the funniest characters around. I'm always happy to hear about the down to earth Christian girls in the book. Can't wait for book 3.
