The story of Nicola and the missing Cat is in both English and Italian in the book and Italian only on the CD. It is a good, substantial length giving children time to get into the story and characters before it is over. It is read by native speakers, which is great. There is an introduction in (American) English before the story starts, which could easily have been left out or done in Italian, that would have been better. Some of the parts are contrived, as the authors obviously wanted to include certain possible teaching points, such as days of the week, but this doesn't detract from the story for children, it is only noticeable to adults. At the end there is a glossary of vocabulary items in English and Italian in the book and Italian only on CD, which listeners listen and repeat. there are also several songs which can be followed in the book or else just listened to on CD.
All in all, very good value and a useful resource for parents wanting practice of Italian for their young children.

I love these books. They are the fun and easy way to learn for the whole family. "Siamo molto fortunate" (quote from page 52)

This is a well written, albeit slightly repetitive book. It is suitable for a non-beginner learner and there are plenty of expressions that can later be then studied in depth with a grammar companion and exercise book (not supplied). The text can be very useful if a bilingual child is using it as he can read the book easily on his own and then he can recognise many words he hears daily from his Italian family. I like the fresh and spontaneous illustrations and the visual vocabulary in the last section, which also features all the songs in both languages.

However, if you are buying this book thinking of the CD as a source of learning, beware! As the Publisher confirmed in an email, 'I am afraid this product is quite old now and it is no longer compatible with your operating system as technology is changing so fast. You may be able to contact your IT support from Apple who may be able to help you find a solution. Sorry I cannot be of more help.'

I use a five year old iMac and only the audio files can be read with system OS version10X.7. I would appreciate if such information were given before a customer purchases the product.
