I am so completely enchanted with this CD, that I was amazed to see that anyone was anything but delighted with this wonderful find. I understand that people are unhappy that there wasn't a book. But NONE of the Rabbit Ears CD's come with a read-along book. They are simply for listening to & enjoying. So I feel that they should be judged on their quality...and as far as that is concerned, this is one of my FAVORITE Rabbit Ears CD's... (and I own them all.) It's a jewel...ESPECIALLY the story of "The Tailor of Gloucester." The combination of Streep's exquisite talent for story telling combined with the music of The Chieftains is soooooo beautiful. As we all know, when you have little ones, you get used to hearing stories a thousand times. But honestly, I truly enjoy hearing this particular disc over & over again....and that is saying something!

Our family LOVES beatrix potter -- and we were hoping to find some of the books on cd for a long car ride. we purchased this, as our preschooler loves both the original petter rabbit story, as well as jeremy fisher. we all were not that impressed with this cd. merryl streep's narration is wonderful, but the mixing is such that the story is drowned out by the background music, which is our biggest gripe. the music just does not seem to fit at all with what we would imagine the corresponding music should be for peter rabbit. maybe we've watched the peter rabbit videos one to many times, so anticipate more of a a classic musical approach. but, this pairing just seemed, well awkward. We only listened to it once in the car - and my daughter didn't even want to finish the story.... so sad, as she LOVES this story. Maybe we will try again after some time - but I don't know that I even care to listen again, too!

I purchased this because the Rabbit Ears series was so good in the past; the originals were sets: a cassette tape with the book. I thought that these were the same set, just with a CD rather than the old fashioned tapes. However, there is no book. The book sets are a great way to encourage reading since young readers can follow along with the book. Also, the pictures are helpful for children just developing the ability to visualize the story. At the very least, the book makes the connection between books and good stories. The books are not available separately either, so I do not intend to purchase Rabbit Ears' products for home or school.

I love these stories because they are extremely soothing to listen to and also extremely exciting, especially in the story "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" where Peter has to escape from Mr. McGregor's garden. I also love Lyle Mays' music as he gives "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" a jazzy feel to the story. Meryl Streep's narration is extremely soothing as she narrates all three stories, which are "The Tale of Peter Rabbit," "The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher," and "The Tailor of Gloucester." Also, in "The Tailor of Gloucester," the Chieftains performs magnificently as they portray an ancient times rhythm to the story.

Great music, superb reading. Kids love it, and it is so well done that parents won't go insane when the kids play it for the millionth time...which they will.

The volume of the music mixed with Meryl Streep's voice is overpowering. Meryl Streep's interpretation is magnificent. I'm surprised that she signed-off on this production: there are parts where I can barely hear her voice because the music is so loud. If they ever re-master this production, I would recommend that they reduce the volume of the music and increase the intensity of Meryl's voice. Additionally, I would like to comment that there are only three very short stories in this production: "Tale of Peter Rabbit", "Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher", and "The Tailor of Gloucester". Unless you are paying for Meryl Streep's performance, $108.01 (new) and $64.24 (used), seems exorbitant.

I was very disappointed with the audio quality of this cd and that a read along book did not come with the cd. I gave it as a gift to my grandson and just recently had the opportunity to listen to it.
I purchased it because I had bought a cd/book combo of another Potter story in Borders that I was extremely pleased with. I will request a refund of this purchase.
