My almost-2 year old LOVES the Spot series, and for whatever reason, "Cake" has been his favorite book since I gave it to him over a month ago. He loves finding the mouse in every scene, and pointing out all the ingredients Spot and the mouse use to make the cake. It has also helped him grasp the concept of blowing out birthday candles, which is good because his birthday is coming up soon! He points to the candles, says something that resembles "candles," then says, "hot," and blows on the book. Pretty cute.

My bookworm toddler loves Spot lift-the-flap books....but this one just doesn't catch her attention. The story is a bit long for her ateention span, I guess, and the text underneath the flaps might be a bit much for her right now (she's 17 months old). Maybe she'll warm up to it when she's a little older. The story itself is sweet; Spot trying to bake his Daddy a cake, with the usual cute messes along the way. And the cake...well, he is a preschool puppy, right? :)
