Didn't like the way they didn't have an animal with each letter

Every letter has a sea creature and each is a real life -- and gorgeous -- photo, not cartoony drawing. The description is just right for the age target: it covers engaging facts but is terse enough for young explorers (and hey, you can always google more info on the creature your child is especially interested in.) I love how in the back there is a bullet-point summary for all the creatures mentioned, a map of world's oceans, and website recommendations. I borrowed this book from the library and now i am interested in owning one for my own early childhood readership collection.

The Alphabet Fun series by Capstone Press really stands out in the field of alphabet books. This installment, ABC Under the Sea, features large, engaging photos to go with each letter and a basic fact about each photo. We learn on the D is for Dolphin page that dolphins breathe through their blowholes. On the F is for Frogfish page, we learn that these strange looking fellows can actually change colors. Young ocean fans will find much to love in these photos and it's a terrific tool to introduce both capital and lowercase letters as each one is clearly depicted on each page. Each book in this series includes a glossary, a read more about it section, a short list of fun facts, and an index. It's these features that broaden the book's appeal to very early elementary students. This entry in the series is truly superb because even though it portrays some common ocean dwellers, kids also get to meet some new ones they probably have never heard of. There's also a map showing the oceans of the world. The great photos will make this effective for any preschool and kindergarten student just learning their alphabet. An excellent choice for the classroom or for a child's permanent collection. Recommended.
