Renée Riva has been writing humorous stories ever since she won her first writing contest in second grade. To sum that all up, Heading Home is a book I suppose is better read after the other two in the series. It is a light read with a lot of good, clean humor. A former greeting-card verse writer and popular speaker, Renée is the author of Saving Sailor, Taking Tuscany, and two children’s books. She and her husband reside in Washington State with their three daughters and a menagerie of pets, the latest addition; a baby turtle, offered in trade for one of her novels. But if you want something that really encourages your faith, you just might want to pick up something else.

It’s 1968 and ten-year-old A. J. Degulio is having the best summer vacation of her young life, hanging out with her dog, Sailor, at the lake; alternately playing and fighting with her four siblings; and driving her mother crazy with her fake Southern accent. But Danny’s family is falling apart, and the wreckage affects both the Degulios and the Morgans. It takes a tragedy to reveal the high price of betraya. nd the hope that lies in forgiveness.

“In this heartwarming adventure, Rudy the Runt will capture the hearts of children, while teaching the virtues of compassion, mercy, and friendship.” Voted “World’s Best Runt Tale” by The Rodent Times Review.

Little Rudy can’t imagine anything better than living in the Guatemala City Dump; a rodent’s paradise full of tasty treats, a Barbie mansion with a pool, and his own fire truck. Unfortunately, life isn’t so good for children living nearby in makeshift shacks. For kids like eleven-year-old Lupe, it’s all about survival.

When the young Guatemalan girl rescues Rudy from the dump bully; a tomcat named Jigsaw, Rudy repays her kindness by finding treasures she can sell and trade for food.

Rudy comes up with many clever and comical ways to outwit Jigsaw, who would like nothing better than to turn Rudy into a little mouse pull-a-part.

Surfing, skurfing, and playing in a Calypso-go-go band, are only a few of the highlights on Rudy’s mercy mission beach get-a-way. All is well—until Jigsaw shows up on the scene.

The discovery of a beach treasure could change everything for Lupe’s family. But can Rudy trick Jigsaw into helping him pull off the most important mission of his life?

Based on a true story—kind of.

This is a fantastic story about what it means to be a child. Renee is able to make you feel like a kid again with her lovable characters, upbeat humor, and strong morals. Renee is an incredible writer who deserves recognition in this age of junky "literature." People who don't like her writing simply need to pull their heads out of the ground. This is a must have for kids, and adults too. Rudy the Runt is a true piece of children's literature!
