John Ruan, American trucking company executive. He was the subject of a 2003 biography, In for the Long Haul: The Life of John Ruan, by historian William B. Fredericks. Ruan died on February 14, 2010, three days after his 96th birthday. Named Des Moines Citizen Year, Des Moines City Council, 1981, Iowa Business Leader of Year Des Moines Register, 1991; named to Iowa Business Hall of Fame, 1982; recipient Distinguished Iowa Citizen award Mid-Iowa Council Boy Scouts American, 1985, Humanitarian award Variety Club of Iowa, 1986, People With Vision award Iowa Society Prevent Blindness, 1986.
