I bought this book because I found that Lucille is in my tree and also a legend. I was interested in reading her words about her life. Her daughter mentioned she wrote this in the 60s. She wrote about everything from her early life to getting started in showbiz to life with Desi. This book was a fun read although the paperback itself is on the small side. I would recommend this to anyone with interest to Lucille, Desi, or even old Hollywood.

This was a delightful read. I was so surprised. Lucy's daughter writes in the preface that they found Lucy's memoir after she died. She wrote it in the sixties, so you don't get her later life. She doesn't dish the dirt on Desi's affairs or write anything scandalous, but she does write about working with him and Bob Hope and all kinds of people from those days. She really had a knack for writing. The narrative flows merrily like water down a stream. I remember watching reruns of I Love Lucy at 9 a.m. weekday mornings when I was little and sick in the sixties. Although she rarely made me laugh, I adored her. She was such a cool person.

My memories of Lucille Ball and her husband, Desi Arnaz, are all of them clowning around on their TV show. It was fascinating to get to know the fleshed-out Lucy and Desi through this book.

Lucy and Desi each packed three lifetimes into one. This is a fun, engaging read that gives just the right amount of detail without becoming ponderous. Beyond the superficial, however, Lucy and Desi's stories are also very inspiring. Neither of them was an overnight success. Both had major roadblocks in their lives, but took what they could get and turned small opportunities and some misfortune into tremendous professional accomplishments.

Lucy seemed to be earnestly attempting to be even-handed in her accounting of she and Desi's lives. Her love for Desi shines through despite their marital problems and she takes her share of the blame.
In her writing Lucy just expresses an indefatigably positive attitude toward life that rubbed off on me a bit and just might rub off on you too.

We are never really given as much as we want in these biographies of famous people, are we? The same holds true here, although we are still given a lot. I never knew Ball had such an active film career--as such, very little time in this book is spent on discussing the I LOVE LUCY show. Lucille Ball went childless for 10 years of her marriage to Arnaz, then at one point in the book she said she was going to the doctor to find out why, then all of a sudden she is pregnant--we never learn what the fix was.

There could have been more here, like I said, but overall this was an engaging story. In the introduction, Lucille Ball's daughter says that this book (written by Ball herself) sounds like her mother. Even though I, of course, never knew Ball personally, I believe it. The storytelling has a very personable quality to it.

Recommended.

I've been a fan of Lucy's my whole life (who isn't?), but never read a book that seemed accurate or entirely true to the tone of her life. This is Lucy talking about her life until 1962, ending with her marriage to Gary Morton. I only wish she had kept recording her story for 20 more years, but this is an unexpected treasure!
Other books rely on dubious newspaper, magazine and studio press statements as well as the memories of people who barely knew her (if at all). This is Lucy in her own voice; funny, introspective and unflinching talking about her public, private and inner life.
Don't skip the intro by Lucy Arnaz! Explains why this bio appeared so many years after Lucy's death.

Lucille Ball was "I love Lucy" but this book will take you back to not only her youth but her early days in modeling, radio and then beyond I love Lucy to her divorce from Desi and her triumphant role as the first woman President of a production company. Lucy and is so much more than just her Television show and hearing it in her words is a must read.

I am really happy this book was published. It is an interested read from one of the most influential women in television.
The book was good but it really did not fully address her husbands cheating, which makes sense since it was written by Lucy herself. The beginning is a little tough to get through with all the names of people in her childhood and early career but once you get to about 70% into the book when they started I Love Lucy, it gets more interesting. She was a very sharp woman and talented.
