Dorothy Papadakos came to international attention as the first woman Cathedral Organist of the world’s largest gothic cathedral, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC, from 1990 to 2003. She is celebrated for her daring and imaginative organ improvisations as well as her scores for music theatre, film, television and ballet. Her musical Bacchus smashed box office records in its acclaimed Equity showcase in North Carolina and is in development for a future production.

Papadakos was born in Coral Gables, Florida, the eldest of three children of film actress and beauty queen Dorothy Mae Johnson (born 1936) and aviation pioneer Peter James Papadakos (1914-1992), developer of the first co-axial drone helicopter, the QH-50 series for the US Navy, at his helicopter factory, the Gyrodyne Company of America, in St. James, Long Island, New York

Dorothy Jean Papadakos (born 1960) is an American concert organist, composer, lyricist, playwright, and author. She is the former organist at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City (1990–2003), the first female organist to hold that post. She was also organist for the Paul Winter Consort at the Cathedral's Easter and Christmas services and performed with the ensemble on their Grammy Award-winning album Silver Solstice, released in 2005.
