Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman; May 24, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter, author, and visual artist who has been a major figure in popular culture for more than fifty years. Much of his most celebrated work dates from the 1960s, when songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind" (1963) and "The Times They Are a-Changin'" (1964) became anthems for the civil rights movement and anti-war movement

Another strong influence on Bob Dylan was not a musician primarily, although he has written music, but a comedian - Charlie Chaplin. After seeing many Chaplin films, Dylan found himself beginning to pick up some of the gestures of the classic tramp of silent films. Now as he appears on the stage in a humorous number, you can see Dylan nervously tapping his hat, adjusting it, using it as a prop, almost leaning on it, as the Chaplin tramp did before him. Yet despite his comic flair, Bob Dylan has, for one so young, a curious preoccupation with songs about death.

I think I'm being kind to give this 4 stars only because the author has focussed on a fantastic quartet of some of his finest albums and does get the reader pretty close to the right chords. I haven't tried but a couple and have to disagree with some of the interpretations. One of my favourites "You're a Big Girl Now" is pretty close but I can't hear it being done in minor 7ths, as the author suggests. Rather just minors.Where that dissonant D9 comes from, I don't know. Maybe I need to play this song again and try it, but I do recall years ago playing this in just regular minors without the D9 and it fit quite well. He often uses a G chord without the 5th string sounding the B (or third). It's harder to play and doesn't really do anything for me at least. Maybe I'm wrong, but the song sounds off in spots, but close. Maybe authors intentionally write these slightly off to avoid copyright issues. I've long suspected that. Anyhow, it gets players quite close, if it isn't quite right. Other songs were very enlightening. Tangled Up In Blue showed me some very esoteric chords that are probably more correct than the way I used to play them. I borrowed this from the library but will probably purchase it as it is quite good and what a great selection !!
