Jazz: A People’s Music. Finkelstein published his book on jazz in 1948. From Sidney’s records, the root of the album concept was pretty obvious: a collection of songs, like a collection of photos. He dedicated it to the birth of modern Israel, which took place that year. Over there were Benny Goodman sets, with Lionel Hampton, Gene Krupa, and Wilson.
