A thangka, variously spelt as thangka, tangka, thanka, or tanka (Nepali pronunciation: ; Tibetan: ཐང་ཀ་; Nepal Bhasa: पौभा), is a Tibetan Buddhist painting on cotton, silk appliqué, usually depicting a Buddhist deity, scene, or mandala. Thangkas are traditionally kept unframed and rolled up when not on display, mounted on a textile backing somewhat in the style of Chinese scroll paintings, with a further silk cover on the front.

I bought this as a gift for my brother. He is a tattoo artist and was looking for a book with Tibetan art work. He received this book and said it has been a great reference for him and his art work.

Excellent overview of Tibetan Thangkas utilizing this impressive collection. The full color photographic reproductions on heavy paper are simply fantastic!! I was astounded at the detail I could resolve under a magnifying glass.
