This book covers over a thousand years of Chinese painting without ever becoming clunky or bogged down. The author is a curator and expert on the subject and was one of the first Westerners allowed into China after the Nixon negotiations in 1973. He writes in a crisp, concise style that conveys a lot of information in clear sentences. The Chinese divide painting into 3 categories: figures, landscapes and animal/plants.
