Michael Wilcox opened my eyes to the difficulty in mixing pure dyes to appropriate colors. His other book Blue and Yellow Don't Make Green<, was the theory; this text is the proof. His primary focus was in painting, but it explained the odd colors I was getting mixing dyes. I was able to adapt his ideas and find colors I needed when mixing dyes. This book is an exemplar of the colors mixed with tints from the colors primarily used.

After getting his main book, talking more about the theory, I had to get this as well. It's a fantastic reference, and pretty much gives you every bit of info you need to mix any color you'd ever want. Clear, concise pictures showing different tints and color ranges between two colors. Really, you don't technically even need his other book to use this. This just gives you the practical info, all in one book, although his main book also has some of the mixing recipes in it, as well. If you're a traditional painter, especially a beginner, this is a must-have.

While not an exact match for dyes (fewer pure colors), it still gives many examples of what to expect as colors mix pre-dyeing.

The product and theory are good as color transparency is contrasted with similar color that is opaque or partly so. Also, the color mixtures are of interest. Finding the color green you would like to use is demonstrated, for example. The size of the publication is disappointing as it is quite small, desirable to some as it could fit in a pocket, but not to me as the color swatches are too small for analysis without a magnifying glass, in my opinion.

I can't easily take my watercolor mixing charts with me so I was looking for something pocket-sized with a basic cheat sheet of mixes to have on hand. This was a really nice little book. Not quite pocket sized, but I can fit it in my pochade box anyway! Very handy little tool especially for mixes that I don't use all the time!

It will take time to get the end result right but, oh, what a difference it will make in your paintings. "Anything worth doing is worth
doing right" is what my father taught me so now my art has taken on a new look.

Use this book often, a great reference.

I have been very happy with my purchases and reasonable prices for the products so far.
