This book includes brief descriptions on proportion and explains several aspects of the human body with many supporting illustrations.
It is great piece to have as reference material but lacks the detail for me to recommend it wholeheartedly as a teaching/learning tool.

She absolutely loved it! She said it was a great help in her studies of sketching the human anatomy.

Great book, superb illustrations, the only con that i can remember is that it doesn`t have some explanation about the numbers that are written on the side of some muscles` names (usually in parenthesis) I don`t have any idea what those numbers means. A friend of mine told me that the combined version of the human and animal have some extra drawings comparing the two, but i thing that this smaller size is more practical.

Btw, it took me 21 days to receive this book in Brazil.

After a trip to the natural history museum in New York, I came home looking for better anatomy references for drawing. I had kept craning my neck trying to figure out how some of the joints worked and the ranges of motion.

I was pleased to find this book (and the mate, Animal Anatomy) on the shelf at my local bookstore. I've looked at several anatomy books for artists but none of them have felt as complete as these. The information is laid out in a straight forward and terse manner with verbal and pictorial explanations of join movements and muscle behaviors of a body in motion.

Really excellent books.

If I had to make any complaints about them, it's going to be nit-picking, but here's the list for you nit-pickers.

* The text is in a small font and can be hard to read.
* Some of the drawings can be a little confusing. For example, a drawing of the scapula from different angles, the top view is a right scapula where the other drawings are left.
* On one or two drawings of the hands, the thumb is slightly rotated out of the plane it should be in, making for an awkward hand.

On the whole, these are excellent books for the artist, vastly superior to any other art-anatomy book I've found.

This book has many drawings of the same muscle or bone multiple times. It is a great reference for artists. Some drawings go into detail, as in the spinal cord. At first I saw pages with a drawing of a vague spinal cord, but the more you go into the book there are pages with a nice close up of each vertebrae with a nice lighting providing detailed shadows and highlights. This is a great book to have if youre looking into drawing the human body and knowing the names of all bones and muscles.
