Screen printing is a printing technique where a mesh is used to transfer ink onto a substrate, except in areas made impermeable to the ink by a blocking stencil. A blade or squeegee is moved across the screen to fill the open mesh apertures with ink, and a reverse stroke then causes the screen to touch the substrate momentarily along a line of contact. This causes the ink to wet the substrate and be pulled out of the mesh apertures as the screen springs back after the blade has passed

This book is easy to read and understand. It presents the material in a way that is enjoyable to digest. The information is good and to the point. I have been using this book in a community college introduction to screen printing class for at least five years.

I teach a beginning Screen Printing at the local Community College where the textbook required for students costs over $90, copyrighted in 1996, and way too technical for a bunch of young people who just want to learn how to "do" screen printing and get on with t-shirt printing. This book is an excellent compromise with separate individual pages dedicated to specific topics. Helpful in building scope and sequence of lectures and demonstrations. The information is clear and precise to each topic and are illustrated profusely with color photographs. I'm going to recommend this book to the College as the textbook for beginning Screen Printing. The information is comprehensive and the price is right!

The book covers a lot of ground for those looking to learn screen printing and is a valuable resource. The DIY plans in the back of the book are worth it.

very good book though I wish they would have had more from an art level than from a business approach.
A bit disappointing. I thought this was going to be the compendium of contemporary screen printing. It does have information, just nothing that new or earth-shattering.
