Although the entire Wright at a Glance Series is wonderful, this book is especially good. It gives good examples of what made Wright's Prairie home distinctive. The photographs are very fine and the text supports them well. 14 people found this helpful.

Of course Wright is a master of adaptation to landscape. Again a small book is a treasure especially to one limited in space and mobile on public tansportation. I was very interested in learning more about Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian home designs, and this little book delivered in a big way! Full of wonderful photographs and information, it inspired me to do some changes in my own little Bungalow home.

Carla Lind is a prolific author of Wright's works. In her 1990s-era Wright at a Glance series she's taken on Wright's glass designs, furnishings, fireplaces, dining rooms, prairie houses, public buildings, and Frank Lloyd Wright's Lost Buildings - each fewer than 100 pages. Lind has expanded some of these pamphlet-like introductions into more expansive books, like Lost Wright: Frank Lloyd Wright's Vanished Masterpieces published by Pomegranate. About one hundred of Frank Lloyd Wright's buildings have been destroyed for various reasons.

With their bright and open spaces, in low buildings that bland with the landscape, Frank Lloyd Wright's prairie house designs altered the course of 20th Century architecture-and established a true American style. Many of these beautiful structures, found in Oak Park and River Forest, have now become registered National Historic Landmarks.

Frank Lloyd Wright was born in Richland Center, Wi. on June 8, 1867, the son of William Carey Wright, a preacher and a musician, and Anna Lloyd Jones, a teacher whose large Welsh family had settled the valley area near Spring Green, Wisconsin. His early childhood was nomadic as his father traveled from one ministry position to another in Rhode Island, Iowa, and Massachusetts, before settling in Madison, Wi. in 1878. Wright’s parents divorced in 1885, making already challenging financial circumstances even more challenging.

Realizing the first truly American architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright’s houses, offices, churches, schools, skyscrapers, hotels and museums stand as testament to someone whose unwavering belief in his own convictions changed both his profession and his country. I am a Californian and we pride ourselves in our desire to be part of the outdoor scenery. Of course Wright is a master of adaptation to landscape. Again a small book is a treasure especially to one limited in space and mobile on public tansportation. Thank you for having these books available.

This book is no bigger than a CD package and about as useful as a parka in the desert. I was expecting drawings of house plans, not little blurbs of info that read like captions. I don't know why the publisher wasted the time and money to publish this tiny tome of uselessness. Maybe next time I should heed the reviews of 2 stars or less.

Guess I should have read the product description a little more detailed, as is just a small pocket book. Actually some nice photos and would make a nice gift for someone interested in architecture. But, not much info, and no floor plans. So just rate it 3 stars. Average. Not really good, or really bad. A nice stocking stuffer though!

The book overall is descriptive and informative of the design features of Wright's Unsonian Style. The size of the book is slightly upsetting and would be better in a larger format to help capture the he true essense of the interior spaces and exterior views. This book is a good quick guide to help understand the Usonian style of Frank Lloyd Wright.

I was very interested in learning more about Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian home designs, and this little book delivered in a big way! Full of wonderful photographs and information, it inspired me to do some changes in my own little Bungalow home. Very inspiring!

It's written at a very basic level and really helped me explain the Usonian concept to the wife and had pictures. She's on board with building a Usonian inspired home.

I'm a semi-retired architect from the mid west and while in CA, I took the time to look at Wright's "Textile Block" houses, it was worth the trip
I had met Wright many years ago and had always liked his creative approach, that gives you an idea of my age
The "Textile Block" houses are in varying states of repair and disrepair and are not accessible, except from the street
The book fills in some of the gaps and I wish that it was in a larger scale and had more
The color is welcome since a lot of Wright's work is often seen only in black and white
I'm going to buy a 2nd copy for my son
This is a nice 'little' gift to give to a Wright fan, but it is not comprehensive enough to tell you what the whole Usonian thing was all about.
It would have gotten more stars if the price was a couple of dollars less.
