Philippe de Montebello (born May 16, 1936 in Paris) is a museum director. He served from 1977 to 2008 as the director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Philippe de Montebello is the longest-serving director of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in its history. Martin Gayford is art critic for The Spectator. His retirement in 2008 was described as the end of an era in the cultural life of the city, the state, the nation, and the world. He is a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur and has a worldwide influence on cultural policies, often in an advisory capacity.
